JD 650 Battery Polarity Issue

Are you stating it's bad advice to attach ground lead from charger or jumper cables to a non-painted surface other than the ground post on the battery if battery is still installed in vehicle???

Not so much a discussion of where to attach the ground lead (battery terminal or non-painted surface), but bad advice to tell someone that's it's always the negative (-) lead that is the ground lead.

John Deere Parts clearly shows the US market 650 tractor with round, top battery terminals has a negative ground. The parts description indicates the polarity of the non-grounded cable that connects to the main cluster. The Euro version is also clearly negative ground.

There is a china model having flat battery terminals that could be positive ground. So, are your battery terminal flat and are the frame and fenders heavily corroded? Also check to see if you have 3 forward gears and 9 reverse gears....:laughing:

JD 650/750's came from factory negative ground on battery. Parts key # CH15195 Cable POSITIVE

Could you post the parts key that corresponds to the parts pic you posted earlier?

it's bad advice to make a ground polarity assumption on the part of the charger.

since you have the option of positive, negative or case neutral ground setups in vehicles.

What you state is true BUT on the other hand the percentage of negative ground systems will outnumber the positive ground systems by a very large percentage. Probably over 99+% of vehicles will be negative ground.
