JD 5400 Starting Procedure

My Father died a few months ago and I went home to bushhog the fields. I can not get the tractor to start. And yes it has fuel in the tank. It is a JD 5400 and I haven't driven a tractor in 30 years but I have drive alot of older tractors in my life, JD A , Farmalls, and others along with some heavy equipment.
I have never felt this dumb in my life. It will turn over but that is it. HELP!

It might not be turning over fast enough...try jumping the battery and cranking the engine.

Make sure all of the controls are in neutral. Move the hand throttle about 1/4 way up . Also make sure the pto is off. Should start as long as it has a good battery and is turning over fast enough.

If it hasn't been started in a long time .. try priming the lines. There is a plunger on the fuel filter. Push it a few times. If the engines is turning over the safeties are satisfied or jumped out.
