JD 4410 won\'t start

After intense bushhogging yesterday afternoon, I shut it off and went to bed. Got up in the morn after leaving it outside in a thunderstorm (unusual for me as its usually garaged) and it won't start. Engine turns over if I connect the starter + to the starter -, but only turns over without starting. All the lights go on when I turn the key. Could one of the safety switches under the seat or in the tranny or something be out? Could I have ripped the tranny neutral safety out bushhogging?

Re: JD 4410 won\'t start

Is the PTO disengaged? There's a safety switch there too but you probably knew that /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I take it that your are shorting across the starter solenoid to get it to turn over? If so, you can't be in the seat at the same time.

Re: JD 4410 won\'t start

Yes the PTO is disengaged and I am not in the seat but the gears are in neutral. Thanks

Re: JD 4410 won\'t start

If you're out of the seat, wouldn't the seat safety switch keep it from starting?

Re: JD 4410 won\'t start

I often start mine without being in the seat, only the pto engaged would affect this. There are two solenoids under the right side - it is on the side of the transmission. I am pretty sure one is for the pto. Check those wires.

Of course, you have skid plates. Right?

Re: JD 4410 won\'t start

I can definately start my 3320 with the ptos off and me out of the seat. No gears - ehydro (so I guess 1 gear)

Re: JD 4410 won\'t start

I'd definitely check your seat / neutral / pto switches. One may have gotten wet. If it doesn't crank with the key and only by jumping the starter then a safety switch is probably keeping it from starting. It is also possible that one may have come unplugged.

I really don't know what I was thinking. I can start mine too. Brain Freeze /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

When you turn the key on, can you hear the fuel solenoid click? It sure sounds like a safety switch out of whack.

Re: JD 4410 won\'t start

Well, stupid me, I bought the skid plates but haven't put them on yet!!!! I will check the safety switches. They could have been pulled out when bushogging I guess.

Does it smoke when you are cranking it over?
