JD 4120 Hyd Screen

A friend has a JD 4120 and he me asking me if he had a screen in the rear end for the hyd oil. I couldn't tell him if it did or not. Can someone please help us out? Thanks, Lee

Not in the rear diff, AFAIK, only in the transmission in my JD4100. There is a parts breakdown on green tractor talk that he might be intertested in looking at.

On my 4520 power reverser it is located where the return hydraulic fluid from filter to bottom of transmission
enters the housing. I when cleaning have found loosen filter and then to 2 bolts connecting to housing this will enable to free the line and remove from lower end 2 1.4 inch bolts will allow retainer to come off and able to pull filter out of transmission .( if you didn't remove the fluid by this time you have.)
about 10 gallon. I use a 15 gal. plastic barrow laid on side with bung on top side and funnel direct fluid into barrow.

There is a strainer (some might call a screen) in the "rear end" as shown in this schematic from jdparts.
It is unlike the screen on my 4300 that is located on the forward end of the transmission.. of which something similar doesn't show up for the 4120. The red arrow shows forward orientation, so looks to be rearward and over the right rear axle..

That is the screen I was referring to and the opening is at lowest portion of transmission. follow the line from hydraulic filter to the shown 2 bolt on fitting.

Can you tell us more about it? Don't understand "picked packing" .
