Does any one know if there is a special tool to remove the bolt from the top of the starter? sockets, opened end and closed end wrenches don't work. Tried to remove solenoid but wont dislodge.

Yes there is a special curved wrench you can buy. Dealers get them from OTC or what Deere calls ServicGard. If I remember right they are about $30 - $40 and some dealers even stock them for over the counter sales. # should be "jde80"
