So what caused the rut on the path leading up to the ginked wheel? It looks to me like something pushed or dragged the tractor sideways in a turn and that force caused the axle to snap. Is there more to this story?:confused2:

I cut the mesh off the left wheel and now don't think that caused the problem on the right. I've had baling twine and steel fence wire wrap a rotary tiller and a rotary mower, so I respect what binding forces can do to steel and bearings. The mesh wasn't wedged deep, nor very tight. I did notice hydraulic fluid at the beginning of the rut, so I think when the failure occured, the tire went off-axle, and it was the tire dragging sideways that caused the rut. If there was excessive force cause by the box blade, I think a failure wouldhave occured in the lift arms or top link or their attachment points, and not on the wheel. I don't remember being in a turn with the scarifers down, but if I was perhaps this caused a side load on the wheel that caused the failure.

Too late now, of course...but you'd be a prime candidate for a tractor and a dedicated mowing machine.

That mesh is pretty mean and nasty stuff if it gets wound up tight. I have got this stuff wrapped around my stump jumper on my brush of a couple of times. We're talking a hammer and chisel to get this stuff off.

as said before....that had NOTHING to do with the right side housing breaking...
upgrade to a 3x20 series, they don't leave anymore of a wheeltrack mowing...the tires have more of a footprint on them. there are thousands of people that mow with them, and almost every golf course ive seen has that size minimum for a utility tractor. they use them on the greens and all.....

I am not disagreeing with anyone but for a tractor to break an axle housing something drastic had to have happened. Just pulling a heavy load or working a tractor hard shouldn't have caused this to happen.

The admitted fact that there have been 4 breakages in this tractor's 160 hours indicates something.
Since we don't know the OP or the circumstances other then what has been posted, none of us can really speculate on these failures...but my opinion stands...too little a machine for the tasks being performed.

A brand and size of tractor is getting a bad rap here for reasons we don't know. It almost sounds like these smaller tractors can't cut the mustard under a heavy load. That they will just disintegrate with heavy use. That has not been the case in my experience.

i had a 2520 and used it pretty hard and never had a problem. i had all kinds of heavy crap on the three point bouncing and never had such a problem.
Is there a back hoe we don't know about on this tractor ever??
