Hello everyone, I have a 2240 and the tachometer doesn't work exactly. The rest of the dash works, fuel,temp, hour meter, lights. The only problem is that the tach says I am pulling 2000 rpm even when I'm idling, its got power but it goes to 2000 rpm and doesn't move off unless I really get on it and then it moves up 100-200 rpm. I bought the tractor like this assuming since it had power it would be something simple but after looking at it I found out the system is a more complicated that I thought. I didn't want to drive an hour to the nearest dealer so I was hoping someone on here had a schematic or some help as to what the problem might be and how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

Is your tractor below or above SN 350,000? Early model tach is cable operated,later model is elect.

Check sender on LH frt of engine. I don't know ohm values.
Would that be the speed and hour meter sending unit, I looked it up on the JD site and it said that it is located on the timing gear cover. I haven't looked at it yet, just browsing the computer before I get home.

Sorry for the delay, I got sidetracked with a farmall h I'm currently trying to get running but the engine is stuck. Anyway I couldn't find any sensors on the left hand side of the engine (left side from the drivers seat) however it looks like behind the alternator there is some kind of wires going into timing gear cover, any thoughts.
