3-Point Hitch JD 2210 pto not working.

I have a JD 2210 and the PTO shafts will not turn when I turn on the Power Take off (PTO) Switch. This tractor has two pto shafts, one for a 3 point attachments and one for an mmm. When you use the power take off (PTO) selector lever and select the rear shaft to turn on the mmm shaft will turn easily by hand. If you select the mmm shaft the rear shaft will turn easily by hand. If you turn on the pto switch and not sitting on the seat it will kill the engine. The transmission/hydraulic oil level is at 1/2-3/4 of sight glass. I believe everything else is working right on the tractor. Anyone have any suggestions on where to begin to look for the problem?

Not exactly following your situation. What does "turn easily" mean? As I read it, can be easily turned by hand.

Are you first selecting one of the three choices (line 6) under the operators manual description?

6. Move the PTO control lever (A) to a desirable operating position.

ｷ Position (B) - Mid PTO only.

ｷ Position (C) - Mid and Rear PTO

ｷ Position (D) - Rear PTO only.

7. Pull PTO switch knob up to the engaged/on position.

and after pulling up on the PTO switch knob (line7), the attachment on the PTO will not run?

Yes, the pto will not turn after pulling up on the switch knob.

Are you setting on the seat when you are trying to see if the PTO shafts rotate when engaged, or standing on the ground? From what you posted it sounds like you are standing on the ground.

Set down on the seat and have someone else observe the PTO shafts to determine if they are rotating when you engage them. Please do not have them hold or grasp the shaft when conducting this test.

Yes I am sitting on the set and someone was watching the pto shaft.

Took the tractor to the John Deere dealer where I bought it to have them look at it. They said that the pto valve was stuck closed. Fortunately it did not cost much to fix.
