JD 2020 2030 Alternator Light?

i re-wired a JD 2020 tractor. ran all new wires from alternator to key switch and/or voltage regulator etc.... i believe i have all the wires configured correctly... however, i replaced the old tractor alternator jewel light with an LED light-- which will not shut off when the tractor is running??? The oil jewel light functions properly and it is a LED as well.

here's my question: Is that because the voltage does not drop low enough to shut the LED off? Should I replace with a regular bulb?

any suggestions appreciated. Thank n advance.

Are you sure the alternator is actually putting out??? If it is sounds like a job for txjim. Txjim is a guy on the forum that really knows John Deeres.

You need a certain wattage bulb for the system to work right.
And no I don't know the wattage, sorry.

JD part #(AR55694) is shown in photo I posted. Auto parts store number(1895R) is also in photo

Check your brushes in alt. Most of these old tractors are still running the original alternator. Just remove to 2 1/4" screws where wire plugs in and the brushes come out . Replace or brighten them up for temp fix.

You can't use an LED for the alternator/battery light. It has to be able to light from current flow from either direction. An LED only lights from a one way current flow.

noticed my new battery was not recharging. (recently new wires were run from alt to solenoid and battery etc)... having the deere shop replace the pto seal and also check the alternator (which is an original john deere). gonna make sure the alt is fine first then replace that new LED alt light.

Zebra: i have the part# for the replacement jd alt light thanks to TxJim... my dealer doesn't have the light. what light would u recommend i use for the alt light that i may pick up locally or easily order online? tx

Any auto parts store should have it. Ask for 1895r the "r" on the end is for a red, but it does not have to be red to work. So if they have 1895 that is clear it will work.

For online, just "google" 1895r and you should be able to find many sellers.

If the alternator tests OK, it's either a wiring problem (including wrong bulb) or it could also be the voltage regulator.

Voltage regulator is under dash IIRC not easily accessed.

yes, with the recent re-wiring job i know right where the VR is.. how do u tell if the VR is bad?

i removed the left side panel near the battery and that area was easy to access. thanks

Deere shop says alternator was fine.

on the voltage meter the battery registered 13.03 off, 13.65 at idle and 14.13 with higher rpms. so i'm getting juice back to the battery.

AND when i upped the rpms the new jewel LED alternator light actually shut off. i did order the replacement JD alt light but guess now it's not needed...

thanks for the help.. and TXJIM yes i had that clutch disc replaced on the MX6 and that hopefully was the ticket to resolve slipping on the cutter (other thread)
