Tires Implements Hitting Tires

I have a YM 1700 and the implements occasionally hit the tires when I make a hard turn. I have seen on Ebay an unusual looking three point hitch kit with bent lower arms that they claim works for $180. All I really need is a shorter chain or to reconnect the same chain farther up the lower arm. It looks like it would work to use the same hole that the upper arms tie into but I am concerenced of all that pull on a small pin. Does anyone have a better solution than this? Local hardware store or TSC doesn't carry anything I think I can use.

Don't you have sway chains that can be tightened via a turn-buckle now? If adjusted right, then nothing should hit the tires (if I am understanding you right). Pic would help too. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Under the axle on my 1700 there are 2 big 'D' rings.. one on each side. You run a chain to the lower lift arms. That whay when an implement is hooked up.. it cant sway into the tires.

You say you need a shorter chain or to re-locate your current chain. Do you not have a turnbuckle-chain combination? Are your rear tires turned to their widest position? Even if they are you still don't want the 3 point swaying.

If the pins on the implement are pointing outward, you may be able to remove and replace pointing inward to bring them closer together. Fredricks Importing has stay-chains available for the 1700. 256-773-9951

I have the same problem when turning left on my YM1802. Right turns are no issue. The 3pt has two different of anti sway devices. One is a turn buckel, the other is a couple of chain links. I plan on replacing the chang with a turn buckle

Both work.. but with the chains.. you just have to make sure they are snug with each implement. I used a bolt with some washers and a nut to take up a few links when I needed to.

Sorry I could not reply earlier. I could not log in from home. I got to my personal page but could not post. I erased my cookies, etc., etc.

I have the "original" set up on the chains and turnbuckle. I have them all the way tight and I still hit the tires. I was wondering if anyone has an interesting solution to this.

Basically, I have to shorten the chains, or lengthen the connecting points from the "d" rings to the lower arms. I'll try the nut and bolt solution from Soundguy and see what happens.

If you get both chains tight.. and have a implement installed.. there is really no way for the implement to contact the tire unless a d-ring breaks.. or the chain breaks.. or the implemnt breaks.. etc.. etc..

It sounds as if very little side-to-side movement of your implement will cause contact with your tire. So you must have little clearance between lower arm and tire. Your best (and most expensive) bet would probably be the "Ernie-type" bent lower arms that would give you more tolerance between arm and tire. As someone else mentioned, turning the pins inward, if possible, would also help.

Is it possible that you are using the wrong implament for you tractor. I'm not sure if yours is a class one or a class two hitch. If you are using a class two implament on a class one 3 point hitch wouldnt it push the arms out closer to the wheels and couse this problem??.

What is the distance between your lower lift arms? Standard spacing is 26" for cat.1, which your tractor is, and hopefully, your implements. As others have said, you can reverse your wheels, reverse the pins to face in, use spacers on the lower pins to maintain a max of 26" on the lower arms. That should take all the side to side play out and they should not hit the tires.
