I would like ideas on the weight of the oil, not the brand, that is all ready determined.
In central Illinois, we may see a hand full of 100s, but very rarely.
Lets say high 90s for the sake of this discussion.
I may install a plow this winter, temps. might hit 10 below.
Ideas, opinions?
I don't want this to be a debate over dino verses synthetic.

I would go with a full synthetic that meets the lowest temp and highest temp unless you plan to do a fall and spring oil change. Likely a 5W-40 or 0W-40 depending on your expected lowest temp.

Your OEM manual should give you oil weight specs for a given range of temperatures and that would be your best advice by far. Anything on the net is going to be mostly personal preference and may or may not be accurate info for your equipment.

Gary, I think my oil dip stick says 30 weight oil.
I was thinking a 0w-30?

0w-30 seems low isnt this an air cooled motor? I'd run 10w-30 it will start fine in the cold with synthetic.

Yes according to the manual 10w30 is the standard oil. You will have no issues even at minus 10 with full synthetic as the viscosity curves are much flatter than the dino oil curves. Ive started my motorcycles with 20w50 in the 20s with no issues or slow crank. With amsoil

Synthetic is the superior lubricant. Why is Mobil1 your choice?

1. Price?
2. Availability?
3. Brand loyalty?
4. Reputation?
5. Other reason?

Just interested. Thanks!

Why is Mobil1 your choice?

1. Price? "probably in the price range of all name brand synthetics"
2. Availability? "I can get Mobil1 just about any place"
3. Brand loyalty? "I have been using it for years"
4. Reputation? "It has a good one"
5. Other reason?

Just interested.

I use synthetic lubes (oil, grease, whatever) on everything I own (including firearms) and have for years, as well as K&N air filters. I have standardized on Mobil 1. I also wanted to use synthetic on my new tractor, but was not able to find a 15w40 (specified by my tractor's OEM) weight synthetic. So I am using regular petroleum 15w40 for diesels since my tractor is still under warranty and I use it to its maximum capabilities on a regular basis.

For years, I have had all my oils tested on a regular basis at Blackstone labs and even tested various types and brands for comparisons from each vehicle. Per Blackstone's volumes of test data of many different oil brands and types (synthetic and regular petroleum), it does not make any difference in the amount or type of various particles they test for. The average mileage of these oil samples were around 6k to 7k, I seem to recall.

So I would pick whatever weight oil your OEM calls for.
