If you stand on your lawn and holler long enough, someone's going to ask what you're hollering about.

As someone that spends a more than fair amount of time here on TBN, I have to say in general, when someone posts their life story on the internet they are opening themselves up to the thoughts and responses of tens of thousands of folks. They opened the door to a public critique of their life choices. Were they expecting no observances of their life choices that may include differing opinions?

Mossroad, several months ago when I announced on TBN my spouse and I had separated and were getting a divorce, did any members here give me a hard time about it and say the hours I spend every day chit-chatting on this site were contributing to my divorce? NO. Everyone was sympathic and supportive, even sending me PM's giving me their personal opinions which were at least 98% positive and being non-judgemental of my situation. If only those I knew on Facebook had been as understanding....!!!

Hahahaha, I'm glad I'm not the only one that pops onto TBN a few times a day for a distraction! I'd probably have just as many posts as David except I'm more of a "reader" than a "sharer"

Time to change that, you too can get trashed on the internet.

Dave...I'm sorry to hear about your plight. And it takes a man to admit to the faults that he has. Most people go thru life in some sort of denial. Me included. Losing your job and no money coming in...with that pressure...would affect anybody in that situation. At least no divorce. Do whatever you can to make your lives better since you guys will have many more years in the future of your family. Maybe less acres and a nicer house in the future. That's not so bad!

Personally, I don't kick a man while he's down even if he did post to a public site about his private business. Just because he put it out there doesn't mean I have to jump on his life choices. The guy is going through some painful stuff. He will have to come to terms with his life choices and their impact on his family and marriage. He will also have to come to terms with his wife and children's expectations. He has to do, we can't do it for him.

I wish him his family and his marriage the best.

David -

I think that you've gone a little far in revealing your personal life on the internet, but not too far.

You had most of us admiring you while I at least wondered who this superman was that could seemingly do it all, full time job, LONG commute, run a horse farm. But it has been done. A close friend at where I worked did this for two decades, including 3 hours of commuting 9 days a pay period, horse farm, and lots of TDY. But he didn't have children.

Now it looks like you can no longer leap tall buildings with a single bound. But don't worry, I'm sure you can leap normal buildings with a single bound, a lot better than most of us here.

As far as selling your haven, did you fully investigate selling some of your other properties? Are they in good selling markets? I know the DC market is HOT.

If you are sincere about selling as far as Craigs List - stay away until other avenues don't work. You'll find people like me looking for the absolute best bargain wasting your time with inane questions.

Can you get some "fancy" flyers printed up and placed in places like the Officer club at Quantico and distributed around the new complex at Ft. Belvoir?

I worked at Belvoir for 37 years and knew a LOT of people that commuted from Fredicksburg and south of there, I viewed them as insane. With the new NGA facility open on I95 at Newington, Ladysmith Va. is only 56 miles south. Less than a 45 minute drive for the early morning commuters. I'm sure there are a LOT of people like me that would buy your place in a heartbeat to retire to in a few years. And a lot of these people who make GOOD money are being forced to move from other areas. They would very willingly face a couple of years pre-retirement commuting when they could wind up with a goldmine like yours. Get on the facility or at least get some posters put up there.

Good luck.

What do you expect?

You walk into a bar and order a beer - is anyone going to tell you it's bad for you? We are all addicts of TBN. :) :)

All,

Thank you for the support and advice MUCH of it very good.

I have NO INTENTION to divorce, and neither does she (at the moment at least).

The reason I am thinking hard about selling (cannot rent it for enough to cover the costs) is because she is finally admitting that the tiny house has killed the joy of country living. She loves the land, HATES the house. This has NOT helped resolve our under the surface marriage issues, most of which fall from my becoming scared when I lost my job for 11 months and burned up all our reserves in that time. I became autocratic and angry and in denial about it ad I've been mean it seems.

She also HATES the much longer drive to town for the girls lessons, shopping, etc.

When we fix the marriage, the NEXT time we buy country property, I will ensure the house is AWESOME and the gardens rock so SHE is happy from day one.

,
David

Sorry MossFlower Woods didn't work out. Your 51 acres is a lot of land for one man to work part time.

Glad to hear you plan to try again. A piece of unsolicited advice: next time don't buy forested property in the foothills. Buy your acreage on the valley floor. I dodged a bullet 9 years ago when I was looking for my first acreage---thought it would be a good idea to buy in the Sierra foothills--cheaper land prices. Wrong!!!. Cheap land but crappy soil, trees/stumps to remove, $20K or more for well (500+ ft for a puny 10-15 gal/min flow) and septic installation (lousy perking native soil so have to truck in soil to satisfy the county health people). I took my time and looked at nearly 60 properties before I found my 10 acres of flat pasture land in the North Sacramento Valley. I'm retired (71 years old last Nov) and that parcel keeps me as busy as I want to be. Spent about $8K for well (154 ft deep, 100+ gal/min) and septic installation (1200 gal tank, 100 ft of leach line in excellent perking soil) here on the valley floor.

Good luck and keep posting.

Since you brought it up and asked, I tell you what I recall....
As I recall, you constantly complained about how much having fun costs and didn't understand why people wasted their money on such frivolous things like eating out, movies, etc.... Several folks suggested you take your wife out once in a while.... and, well... from my perspective, you were no fun.
