Chipper I feel stuffed up

I have a Wallenstein bx42 chipper. The engineering could use some improving. If you fail to mix what you are chipping(small branches with larger hardwoods) it will jam the discharge shute. Somewhere, someone must have modified this to prevent this problem which ,I think, is caused by the shute becoming too narrow too soon just as it leaves the body of the chipper
Anybody got some solutions?

I would check the condition of the knives

first and reset the guage depth after sharpening if

your chipper flywheel allows you to do that first.

I would be willing to say that you have compressed

mulch in the throat of the discharge point.


A reliable option would be to invest in some Fluid Film spray

to add a greased lightning effect to the chute and fly wheel.

I too have the same machine (approximately ten hours use-three years old) and suffer the same symptoms. It does not like small branches but I will admit that I haven't tweeked around with the knives, also hoping some BX42 owners will step in and share their solutions.

I have found that I can get away with some light stuff (like willow branches) if I mix it with heavier stuff.

If I have a bunch of light stuff (like fruit tree prunings) I just forget the BX42 and get out the old Craftsman 5 HP chipper/shredder.

Maybe someone will come up with a bright idea to fix the situation, but I think it's just the nature of the beast...
