G'day great to hear all is ok  if you had to wait for that fuse to come in then it may be a good idea to order a spare at some time, vibration and age can blow a fuse as much as a short. They always seem to go at the wrong time.

Oh and your not alone I have seen blokes that should have known better ( 20+ yr mechanics and auto sparky's) have a brain fade and do the same thing!!

Jon

Thanks for the kind words. Life happens, I'm old enough to know better, won't happen again, I got way with it cheaply this time.

Absolutely! Bring it on! As they say in the mechanics bible..."Let he is who hasn't done a stupid thing in his whole life cast the first wrench"

well crap that left me out

That being the case, my wrenches are bonded to me for life, i.e., unthrowable.

Don't ask how a radiator replacement with a donated radiator and water pump, (and they were really both in great condition, no surprises there), ended up costing the writer/shade-tree mechanic >$100 in 1987 on '77 Chevy Nova... Do you think an ooopsed EGR valve fits in here somewhere?... Yup!

Alright fellas, I appreciate all of the responses. They have been helpful in providing a starting point for me. That said, I think I'm on to something. I began tracing the start-run circuit this evening with my multimeter and noticed a 30amp fuse that was rattling when I removed it. I don't want to jinx myself but I think this may be the problem.

On the cover in the 1st pic it looks like it says 50A. Also, the parts looks more like a diode than a fuse. Glad you got it going.

Pretty good eye. When I zoom in it does look like it says 50amp. That said, here is the replacement part name and part number as described on the Messicks website. 51950-29320 Item 020 30amp Don't think I have anything on my little Kubota that would require 50 amp protection

When I was a generator mechanic in the Army I was told to replace a locked up engine. Being a young know-it-all, I didn't believe 'ol sarge and proceeded to try and start the engine multiple times. Well, it seems if you continue to engage a starter against a locked up engine it will super-heat very quickly and catch the starter winding wrap on fire. I slowly realized that 'ol sarge just may be right and decided to go get my tool box to get to work. By the time I had returned to the generator, the shop bays were full of a stench I can only describe as horrendous and my senior leadership had made their way into the work area to see what the heck was going on. There wasn't much smoke right away but the starter eventually got going pretty good and after a couple of fire extinguishers I was able to report to the Chief's office to receive a one way counseling session. Good times...

I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!
After reading your last post, I see it's not the first time.....probably won't be the last either.
All I can say is, sometimes.....almost all the time..a little slower is a lot faster.

Glad to hear it wasn't more expensive.

I am sure I will take some heat for this but there are really only 2 kinds of guys here ya know.. Those of us who will admit to having done something stupid and those that WILL have to admit to having done something stupid in the future...
