I Changed the Battery in My 3510 Today

I won't run a battery longer than 5 years in anything I own. OEM batteries even less. Just my opinion but when a battery gets to around that stage (even good ones and I run Interstate) they begin to "die" and you're just overworking your alternator and electrical system to keep up with the "weak" batteries.

That makes no sense at all, a battery is a storage device, it holds charge.
What "overworking the alternator and electrical system" ? Maybe a SLIGHT increase in recharge time, but so what ?

Oh well, your money your choice to waste it.

I'm still on my original 05/06 battery, not clear how old it was when Kukje put it in.
It isn't showing signs of weakening, if/when it does I'll get the cheapest generic battery I can find.

Long warranty period batteries are just a marketing device to get your repeat business (at a slight discount).
You pay a LOT up front for that - such a deal :D

I have had batteries last over 10 years in some of my rigs. And I just had battery in my old 1978 BMW motorcycle that went bad in a year due to an intermittent electrical leak that I just can't seem to find. A lot of it is in just keeping the battery charged, but not overcharging them. Battery Tenders and their equivalents are wonderful life extenders for batteries that set unused for any length of time. I don't mind running batteries until they die. I don't think it is really that hard on an alternator and charging system to have a battery used it's full life cycle, whatever it turns out being. But if you continue to use a battery is totally shot, you might do damage to your charging circuit.
Interstate batteries are indeed good batteries. I installed a pair in my Dodge Diesel truck back in 2008 and they're still working just great. They will still start the truck on a 10 degree morning even if I forget to plug the block heater in.

Agreed !!!
Interstate batteries are a big $ ripoff! I have had a few!
Walmart ..... Everstart..... is the way to go!
To avoid surprises, and test for impending battery failure, it is a good idea to have a Solar BA5 or BA7 or BA9 battery load tester handy.

That's one thing that makes this country a great place. We can have different opinions on things and voice them without retribution. Well except for basically being called "stupid" and "wasting my money". But in my defense of evidently being both per my peers, I can purchase Interstate battery's for 10% over cost which is less than pretty much any of the box store battery's. If you do a bit of "research" you will find many others that share my opinion(s) on battery life and electrical systems. Do what you do, matters not in the scheme of things, I was just sharing my "method" and ideas about batteries not trying to change your politics or religion. Thank you all for your responses to said opinions, I've been a member here for several years but didn't post much but did visit and read a lot. Maybe I'll just go back to that venue. Adios.

I can appreciate what you are saying Hombre. Forums do indeed at times have their downside and are by no means a perfect form of communication. 1) you can't always see the context, or tone of voice, in what someone is saying. At times it is easy to miss-read the feelings behind what is posted, and 2) It is way too easy for people to be inconsiderate of how they reply. People are much more apt to say something on a forum, or perhaps just say it in a way that they wouldn't say face to face. You need to be thick skinned if you participate in a forum.

It gets worse; What I have seen of forums is that they really tend to polarize people's opinions. It doesn't make any difference what you say. You can say something that is profound, or something that is out-right stupid, or anywhere in between. Either way people will come out of the woodwork to challenge you and/or defend you, creating separate "tribes" of thought. Those with similar opinions bond quite closely while that those with differing opinions grow further apart. These different "tribes" can eventually become downright hostile towards each other. It's not a unifying process at all. You really see this clearly in news or political forums, but you can even see it to a degree on innocent places like tractor forums.

I replaced the 90-pound battery in my Ford last year. Man, that was going to be a job hoisting it up to chest level so I removed the old and loaded the new one using the FEL. I just had to get it out of the pull-out tray and into the bucket then reverse for the new.

During my search for batteries, I noticed that most warrantees are down to 90 days! Some even less. What the heck is up with that?

I CANNOT buy Interstate batteries at 10% over cost,... and most other folks cannot do so either.
Three years ago I had an Interstate fail one month outside the "Free replacement" warranty.
I was at my summer home in Atlantic Canada, and both local garages had quit Interstate due to warranty issues.
Had to order the battery through another garage 30 miles away.
When I went to pick it up I had to pay as much for the Interstate replacement as I would have for a NEW EverstartMax at Walmart, or an Exide at Home Depot (Exide has a 48 mo. FREE replacement).
That garage owner ALSO told me he was dropping Interstate due to warranty issues.
Interstate had their THREE STRIKES with me!
They are OUT!
I have fifteen 12V batteries, and one 6V

Oh well, nine months later and after 12 years I'm finally singing the battery blues :D

Not dead yet, but it was too weak to start the tractor yesterday.
With the block heater and a battery charger on for 1/2 hr it MIGHT start, but I doubt that it will last the winter.
Anyone happen to KNOW the battery group & terminal type for the 42 horse Branson/Century/Kukje of 2005/2006 ?
I would like to get one before I take the old one out.

Dealer just said MT-34 supposedly an Interstate number.
Not too sure about the dealer though, since Century went down they hung onto Branson for a while, then skipped to McCormick and Tym.
Off the cuff, top o' the head answers.
The old battery is out with markings I don't understand (a character set that isn't Western ISO)
The only alpha numeric characters I recognize says it is a Rocket 80-33FR-MF or Global 1000R
Having trouble cross referencing that to a group code.
