i have a mahindra 2810 hst 4x4 I changed the fluid in the transmission. after cleaning the the strainer and filling the fluids. I went to start and raise bucket to drive off nothing happened no steering nothing any ideas, hopefully not a new hydraulic pump . I did find some brass or copper looking shavings in the strainer when I cleaned it.

Everything should be self-purging, but sometimes you have to help but moving the steering, operating the PTO, moving the loader...

If everything was working before, then your pump is not bad. Does the owners manual spell out procedure for bleeding after a fluid change?

Can you, or did you, fill the strainer with hydraulic fluid before putting it back?

Not sure if this helpful but some hyd systems will lose prime if the pump is above the reservoir/sump. If so a trick I use is put a clean rag and air hose in the reservoir fill tube and give it a shot of air while someone else is turning on the tractor.

That said most hyd systems will self bleed like Kenny mentioned.

Sometimes if you start the tractor at idle and don't rev it up you don't create enough suction to get past the air in the line and start pumping fluid. Air is always a concern after drain fill operations so don't start making problems for yourself. The air pressure prime trick shows up repeatedly on forums so it must work. On mine the only tractor I had an air problem with was the 3910 and I started it at idle throttle setting and was going to leave it there and upon realizing a problem, immediately revved it up and the pump picked up as it is supposed to and that was that.
