Get it? Sorry, couldn't resist! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I'm not starting up the hydro-gear wars again, I'm just curious about something. Do the hydrostatic drives have any mechanical connection to the engine other than the pump? I'm mainly thinking of the PTO shaft - I've been under the impression that the PTO was still mechanically linked. I was looking under them while I was shopping, but I wasn't particularly focusing on that, and now I don't have one to look at! Do all the brands do it the same way?

From what I understand a true live PTO has a direct connection to the engine, meaning you hold your foot on the clutch (all the way down) and still have PTO operational. I know the Kubota L4330hst (hydro) that I used this winter has the PTO live off from the hydro, not the engine. So the L4330hst classifies its PTO a live but not truely live from the engine.

Not sure about other hydro manufactures.
