Hydraulics 101

For all of you lucky enough to actually own a Power Trac, rather than us wannabees, I ran across a site that has a neat write up on simple hydraulics and some hydraulic calculators that appear they may be useful. I'm still putting together in my head various combinations of attachments for my fictional 425 set up and dream of actually building some attachments with my pretend welder. However, since the back porch of my place has now been closed in, sheet-rocked, painted and dedicated to my wife's new closet, I have noted that the subject of my new "tractor" is mentioned on occassion. Should I be reading between the lines here? Should I start leaning about hydraulics? Should I take a welding couse? The closet is ONLY 14'x14'. How much $ do you guys think I can spend?

Strike while the iron is hot! "Casually" mention some of the projects that would become possible, or at least easier with a PT!

Gardening/landscaping, driveway work, fencing, snow removal, mowing/brush clearing... Tailor it to your situation.

My wife was a bit skeptical at first, but by the time we got to Tazewell, she was talking me into buying more than I had planned on.

Since then, finding, making and using new attachments has become a primary hobby. See the "Meet Kermit" thread to get an idea of what we've done.

If you think it would be fun to build your own attachments, (I certainly do), definitely learn basic welding & hydraulics.

Go for it, man!
