Hydraulic oil

I live in Alabama and was wondering if I should use UDT or SUDT. Im being told SUDT is for colder climates.

My Kubota dealer in Arkansas doesnt even stock SUDT and says we dont need it for our climate, however several folks here on TBN claim it makes the HST transmissions quieter. Personally I can live with a little whine rather than pay the extra $$$ for SUDT. My dealer service manager even said that if the tractor is out of warranty, you could use a universal oil that meets the UDT specs and it will be just as good. KUBOTA would use that as an excuse to deny a warranty claim if they found a none Kubota oil should a problem occur. My tractor is out of warranty now so my next oil change will be with universal hydraulic oil meeting UDT specs.

Don't go too cheap on us Gary! That backhoe will heat the oil and it will thin out and lose lubrication if it is not of decent quality. Been there, done that.

UDT specs does not mean UDT quality. However, let's not start another hydraulic fluid war, please!

I have used TSC UTF that was udt spec'ed in the past but changed it about half way to the next changeout, noise was louder but the hst just was not near as smooth operating as before. I have used other UTFs (amsoil, Mobil) that seemed as good as udt but cost more. Who would have thought Kubota would have something cheaper than aftermarket.

I'd use the cheapest stuff that worked. In my case, with my B2400, it's AMSOIL. Why? With any other hydraulic oil that I've tried I'd lose my power steering after about an hour of hard mowing. After switching to AMSOIL I've not had any power steering problems. I think the problem is heat related and AMSOIL is the best when it comes to the ability to operate in a high temperature environment.
