Here is the fix - I cut the tree, then pushed the stump over the hill with the loader. I could only find one attached root and sawed it. I did manage to get my saw wedged between the trunk and a smaller tree that had fallen. I ended up spending as much time getting the saw free as I spent on the rest of the job.
I used the TC40DA to haul a bucket full of good clay base, then drove back and forth to pack it down. Those R4s did a nice job. Should get a new top coat of gravel this week.
I stopped counting at 65 rings on the tree. My guess it was close to a 100 years old. The next task is to figure out how to get the firewood up the hillside.
