Using your idea, would I have to have just the one center rear post go all the way up? Cause there are no others in the center. I notice all your center posts go up to the peak.

Just one would be fine. My roof is a little different than yours in that I have three trusses to make the full 42 foot crossing. I have half trusses on the outer sections and then an 18 foot standard truss which sits on top of the half trusses. Mine was designed this way t give a 14 foot ceiling in the center section of the barn.

If you ignore the lower roof sections on my barn and just look at the higher roof, it will be the same as what you are doing. Mine is 36 feet long though. 12 feet between posts, whereas yours is 9 feet between posts.

Hopefully that made sense.

I added a picture. If you missed it, go back and look at my last post again.

OK got to thinking a bit more, and the extended center post idea might be doable, IF I extended the side header beams (the ones running front to back) out a couple feet on each end. That way I could extend the rear center post, to the ridge, and set the rear truss on the outside of it, but still resting on the header beam, just not directly over the corner post.

I could then trim the ends in a decorative fashion. I might be able to get the truss company to make the center post out of 2x6, for asthetics only, and hide the post that way.

I could set the front trusses in the same position, with a short beam running from the top of the cross header beam to the ridge. Then it would look the same on the inside, at least from the header up.

I would have to use a 22' header on the sides, but that wouldn't drive up the cost much at all, I don't think.
