I'm going to run about 500' of driveway over some pretty wet ground and am thinking about using a matt but am not really sure how or where to place it, or for that matter if its really necessary. Anyone knowledgeble on this? I will install culverts to allow water to flow under the driveway and finished road grade will be about 18" over existing, probably using DG over a 6" gravel base.

I'm using it now on a driveway. It's amazing stuff....definitlely worth the cost in the long run, even scraps of the stuff help out to stabilize an area. Unless you're on sand or a natural gravel base, I wouldn't not use it.

OK, sounds like the way to go! Great website also, many thanks, it clearly shows how/where/why. I've priced it locally at ~$500 for a 12.5'x435' roll. I also called a mgf direct and was told its ~$375 per roll drop shipped, 6 or more rolls. When we start the house thats the way I'll go. I'll post a few pics when we get started on the driveway (aka when the rain stops)

You might want to email Propex or Nilex who will both help with the right spec. for the geotextile, given your expected road traffic and your soil conditions. I used non-woven (cheaper than woven). The price you've been quoted is about what I paid for a full roll 15' wide.
