How NOT To Bank.

No sh*t guys ... I just got on the South Carolina website, and I am owed $5200 from a mechanics lien I filed over 15 years ago. It seems it must have been paid off sometime after I moved. I have filed a claim and will let you know... THANKS!

The bank gave my money away after no transactions for 1.5 years. NJ Escheat is for 2 years.
They sent the "Notice" to my old address, which was in NJ.
They have my correct phone number and email and sent me links to my paperless, but I never got notice of the Escheating.
I am almost at 90 days since I made the claim, still not update since they changed to "received my documentation",
How the H*** is this for my benefit? I trust the bank to hold my money, and they gave it to the state and did not notify me on 2 of the 3 ways they KNEW were legitimate.

I know why this process exists, but the states are making millions of dollars doing this process, instead of trying to actually contact us.
The process has turned into a moneymaker instead of the money saver for people who have been separated from their funds.
State also set short time limits recently, to make sure you can't get the money if you don't know about it, why the time limit of a Year?

Also, if you owe money (like IRS, tax dept, etc) you pay penalty + interest.
How about if you're due money you should get it plus interest.

Good, clean, living... That's my story... and I'm sticking to it. Funny, but when I filed that lien the guy told me I would never see it; and he was right, I almost fell over when I looked. What isn't funny, is that losing 5200 bucks really hurt my family at the time and was catastrophic. Live clean, my friends, live clean....

Credit Card games are not uncommon in Europe.

I had taken a group out to dinner at a nice resteraunt with the Visa Logo displayed...

When it came time to pay they said the machine was broken and I would have to pay cash or go to an ATM...

I said this is a problem and said I will send them the money when I got home... miracle of miracles they got it working... actually similar several times

Sister in laws mom wanted to do some gift shopping in Germany.. the owner was having a bad day and pitched a fit about Americans and credit cards and we walked out

A couple of days later we were by a small shop I know in Hallstatt and asked the owner if my friend could use her Credit Card and she said gladly... Spent $500 in that little shop and it was a pleasure.

I spent time training and working there. I was told, at least in Italy, about 50% of the economy is black, under the table. Works particularly well in the food and beverage industry, 2 sets of books.

I know it's easier to hide cash than a cc transaction.

Some banks are getting carried away.

If I go to one to, example, get change for, say, a $100. banknote they force you to make a deposit first B4 handing U the change.
They always use the excuse that it is 'for your protection', yeah!

But what if I have no acct there?
I'd be out of luck as in many cases some businesses refuse certain denominations due to counterfeiting.
Shucks I was once refused cash to pay a traffic ticket but I argued that I was using legal tender (and won my point).

I'm not much of a world traveler, but I did go to Hungary once. I was surprised to learn that US cash was a popular method of payment.

I visited East Germany (Dresden) in the early 80's. The stores there very much preferred that you pay with the West German Mark, and you were treated very well if you did.

No, it can be done online. I'm not sure where I'll spend this windfall.

I wouldn't be advertising it if I were you. Just under two pennies!!! You'll have relatives you've never heard of coming out of the woodwork. Haven't you ever watched that movie Sweepstakes"? (I haven't either but...)
