Depends what your wanting to do.

I used mine tonight with fluid filled oversized R4 tires and a tiller on the back.
And I was able to still pick up the back tires while curling the bucket.

How about a 5 foot box blade @ about 500#?
Doesn't stick out too far and has other uses.
I always have mine on for most loader work.
Good Luck!

I did extensive research on this when I built my ballast box. I kept adding weight till the machine stayed planted doing max loader work. I ended up with 750 lbs to keep it planted well even on uneven ground. Not saying you cant get away with a little less for lighter work. But that is what it takes to keep it planted nicely and be safe doing whatever.

I have a Titan ballast box filled with surplus gym weights, fire bricks and sand. It hangs about 3" further back off the tractor as I have a Pat's on the arms. I'm not sure how much it weighs, probably 400# to 500#. It's not enough for serious loader work. Rkidd's 750# sounds about right w/ weighted tires.

If you are going to move mud and sand you better get some serious weight. All that is super heavy!!!

Was the 750 lbs on a ballast box or did you have something attached further back on the 3pt?

I have about #750 of permanent counter weight, not counting any attachments.
Note in the photo it would have been too dangerous to carry the stump any distance so I transferred it to a larger tractor.

+1. I have a 5 foot blade on my BX2680. It needs more for full loads of dirt.
