Glad it worked out. Those are some great pictures. Do you have much problem maneuvering in that underbrush or do you just drive through it?

Let me first say how much I appreciate you guiding me thru this. I was always amazed at some of the great pictures people posted since the inclusion of digital cameras. It was also a major mystery to a guy such as myself so I'm elated to be able to do so as well, thanks to you and Northland.

Those little seemingly innocuous underbrushes were sometimes just enough to stop my tractors forward motion when dragging a weight the 750 was just about able to handle so there was plenty of manuvering. The chain acquisition allows me to keep forward motion through this stuff like it wasn't there. It claws at the tractor like tentacles but she just chugs on through now. I still manuver but not nearly as much s I had to. Many times the length of a skidded tree hangs you up on a turn so a straighter path is necessitated and most of the time that path is ensconced with brush. Previously, after the first snow, Iwas done skidding. This year there was no snow at first but cold, wet and ice which also stopped the tractor. Its what made me finally get chains. It only took 20 years for me to catch on. To think odf all that winter skidding I missed. The next thing I gotta learn is how people post pictures with explanations under the pic. Thanks again

Lou

You've created a picture monster. Actually I learn best when I do something alot so bear with me.

This field was created by the 750. It spread 1200 yds of gravel fill. The field is 100'x200' and makes an excellent landing area.

Don't know who is landing who in the second picture. I never would have thought that a Tractor that size would drag something that big without tearing the dickens out of the gound. I gotta get a set of chains!

great work arrow! ;)

I love the pictures. I bought my Kubota exactly for the reason that use your JD. You have a great system with skidding the whole tree out to a landing.

Because my skidding takes place from spring to fall I cut the logs into 5 to 8 foot lengths and take them out with my bucket grapple and rear carry-all-see attached pictures. Otherwise they would be covered in dirt and nothing dulls a chainsaw like sawing through dirt.

It's great skidding when the ground is frozen and there isn't much snow. sadly we have way too much snow for skidding with a tractor now.:(

I have several tall maples that cracked in half (during our annual November storms) 20 to 30 feet up from the base of the tree. The tops are touching the ground forming a triangle. Any hints as to how to safely cut them down?

Northland you were one of the guys to help put up those pictures of mine so thanks for that. That front grapple of yours is something to consider. The problem with my system is that for a small tractor, a quarter mile jaunt thru the woods is about its cost effective limit in my mind. This is where your system would shine. I'd get one of those small 4'x8' farm wagons in the 2 ton range. I would then also cut my lengths from 5 -8' depending on tree diameter and grapple them onto the trailer. I could then take out at least 2 good size trees or one 20" tree in one shot forwarding like this. Much more efficient than how I am presently doing it. I'd also get the dump option on the trailer. Where can one get a grapple such as yours.

For what I call A hang trees, I notch the trunk parallell to the snap off. That's the important part. On which side depends first on lean and if no lean then on convenience of access. I notch the tree as if I'm felling it. I leave a good size hinge on the felling cut. I then grab the tractor, raise the fel at least to 5' and just push the tree over toward the notch of course.. The thing here is to control the drop from the tractor and not while you're on the ground. Has never failed me yet.
Thanks for your pics. I love looking at stuff like this.

Lou-I had thought about buying one of those trailers too but they too much cost-$2000

see Tractor Supply Company - 1.5 Ton XB Dump Trailer

This looked like a good option - Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices
but I paid $117 for my carry-all at TSC put a few old 2x6"s on it with my some carriage bolts and it works well enough and it will lift 1655 lbs (max of my Kubota 3pt hitch).

The grapple is from a welder (Andy Tatro) in Ohio-$400. The valve kit that makes it work from the loader arm is from WR Long in NC-$600.

For $1000 it was well worth it to me and I was able to put it on myself with the help of a neighbour who did a few welds for me.

Thanks for the tip on felling those A trees-I will try that for the ones I can close enough to to push over with the tractor. I think I will use a come-along to drop them where I want them to go when they are too far in the forest.

Thanks Northland

The ones I'm talking about are 6-$700 from Northern Supply. Agri-Supply also has wagons.

My TSC around here has got some crazy pricing going on. They wanted $218 for the same chain I got from Tire Chains for $107. Their grab hooks were $8 for the size I wanted that I got at my local hardware for 5. Both were made in China of the same tensile strength.

With your set-up now it looks like you can take out a whole tree in one shot and if that's enough for you great.

Thats alot of lift at your 3 point. I'm only good to a thousand

Gotta get me a grapple. They are too useful to pass up.

Your cut is about the same size as my JD 750. I wish they sent me the vbars but yours must dig in like crazy. Ok, can you tell me how to get the pictures out of my camera and onto this site? I notice on my handheld it has what looks like a miniture usb socket. I'm thinking that must have something to do with transfering pictures directly from the camera only I can't say for sure. I'm really pathetic about this tech stuff. My computer only seems to have the standard usb ports so already I'm lost

Lou
I would like to know how to do this too.
I finally got a camera and then the other day I had to get a new cell phone and it has a cemera also so now I got 2 cameras.

There is a cord that is available for image transfer. If one didn't come with your camera, you need to get one. The small end goes to your camera and the other goes to your usb ports in your computer. After you have your pictures up on the screen, right click on it and send them to someplace on your computer. I send mine to "my documents". When you post to TBN sight, I guess some of us have the paperclip attachment right on the screen and others such as myself only have a file management prompt that you can attach files with. Its under "additional options" That's the kind I have so when I click on "manage attachments", I browse to "my documents," click on the saved photo and then click on "upload file". The picture is now available to post as it attaches itself to the bottom post box. You must submit your post with the bottom of the two "submit post boxes" if you have the same post screen as I do or the one without icons or "paperclip" attachment/
