how much does sod weigh?

I'm trying to figure out just what my next tractor should be. I currently have a 2305 and I know I can't lift a pallet of sod with it...so, what compact will lift a pallet of sod? I figure that's probably the heaviest thing I'll ever lift.

I always try to judge weight by looking at something in cubic metres. 1 cubic metre is roughly 1000kg. (I know things have different density and weight and all that but thats my rule of thumb for general guess work)
My utility trailer has a level capacity of 2.5 cubic metres. When I get a trailer full of sand it is nearly always around 2500kg nett weight. A trailer full of 1/2in graded gravel is about 1800kg and a trailer of 4in graded stones is about 1300kg...
Sorry I think metric...... now.....in ft/inches/pounds... I'll guess your pallet of sod is fresh damp sod, probably 3ft high, 3 ft wide, 3 ft deep? Ball park numbers I'll guess about ~1.2 tons.......
Like the guy said in the movie JAWS....I think we'll need a bigger boat.... (but in your case a tractor).....lol

TBH... if you get the sod delivered regularly, you should get onto the supplier to find out exactly how much a pallet weighs, rather than guessing??? They will have the numbers for vehicle loading weights...

Depending on how wet it is, a pallet of sod weighs between 2000 and 3000 lbs
HEAVY.

A relatively dry pallet of St Augustine will weigh at least 1600# 40x48 pallet stacked 5' high. A really wet pallet would add a few hundred #.
