Wow do I feel lucky, 50 to 150 ' depending on the tide so the skiff and depending on the weather, fishery and the day I can usually start fishing withen a couple of miles. Rougnnecked in Tx in high school sometimes driving a couple of hundred miles a tower, makes me appreciate not even having a car now:)))

I come home from work one day and the wife was crying, I asked her what was wrong and she said she didn't want to move. I said OK and we took our place of the market.

I have less than 6 years to retire and figure I can handle it that long. The way figure I use to spent 45 minutes to commute in the cities fighting traffic. Now it is an hour and a half with only 3 stop signs (two on gravel roads, one in a small town I drive through.) I have about 2 miles of gravel roads, 28 miles of state highway and 60 miles of interstate.

Sounds to me like you have your priorities in perfect order! I'd do the same thing.

Twenty or thirty miles one way depending on which office I go to. Sometimes I work from home.

It's about the same for the Mrs.

For me, its school, which is about 12 miles.

42 miles each way. Only 3 stop lights, so it goes pretty smoothly. (until it rains or snows)

Live in the wooded countryside with 7 fishing lakes within 5 miles of my driveway.

The long drive home gives me time to ponder important decisions such as seat time on the tractor vs seat time in the Ranger.

Depends on how you count it I guess. Including my driveway it's two miles to work. Not counting the driveway it's one. :)7

Well I don't know if I'm lucky or unlucky but when I leave my house I walk 25 feet to my tractor shop. Unless its raining then I run lol

I'm betting I have the smallest commute. Due to renovations reducing our living space, my desk is 3 feet from my bed.

I had a 55 mile one way commute for seven years because I did not want to leave my home town. After my first child was born my priorities changed. I took a job in my home town and a pay cut. My commute is now two miles and I get to eat lunch at home most days.

2.4 miles and I love being that close to home. My wife has to drive about 35 miles each way. I thought that was a long way. She really puts the miles on a car. Do they pay for your fuel Brokeknee?

I was just wondering how far most of you commute to work. My commute is 90 miles one way, yep 180 miles a day.

I do have the farthest commute of those I work with, however, one has about 77 miles one way, two have about 60 miles one way, one 40 something, one about 20 and the other three live within 10 miles.

So am I totally nuts like some people claim (maybe for other reasons) or are there many others that have a long commute.

I tried doing a search to see if this topic was covered before but came up blank.

I thought my commute was to long at 80 miles round trip. You and I both have suffered many snow storms doing that also!!! I was raised south of the twin city area on a dairy farm.

Nope, no paying for fuel. But once every nine months or so I get to take the company vehicle home for three months and do work in my area.

I drive 36 miles one way and it takes about 45 minutes. In the morning I drive east into the sun and in the evening back into the sun. Sometimes this can get blinding.

The good thing about the direction of travel is that it is sorta against the direction of travel for many people or at least not as bad. When we lived in the city the drive was about 15 miles and would take 30 to 90 minutes depending on traffic. If I did not leave the office at 4:30 I would just stay until 6:00. Otherwise you just sat in traffic. The drive was very stressful because of the traffic. Really bad.

Now the drive is longer in miles. Drive time is about the same and usually better. The stress from the drive is almost non existent. I have to drive on the highway a bit and through a tad of city traffic for maybe 8-10 miles. Once passed that mess, which is not as bad as what I used to drive, it is all rural driving and pretty easy. Only problems are the suicidal people riding on bicycles on 55 mph shoulderless roads, drivers in a hurry who pass other cars to get no where, and watching for deer. The deer are the worst.

People at work thing we are nuts living this far out. They think the drive is horrible. :D It really is much easier than when we had the city house. Getting home and not having neighbor problems any where near what we had back in the city makes the extra miles driven so much better. No drug dealers next door. No thieves next door. No drunks next door. No parked cars blocking my driveway and mailbox. No load music.

Well I do need to go talk to the preacher at the church that is our neighbor. They are roughly 1/4 mile away. Sometimes they get to playing music and I can hear it through the woods. :D:D:D:D:D

Later,
Dan

50 feet but I usually go past the coffee maker first so that probably bumps it up to about 75 feet :) If I go into the office it is an 8 mile drive one way.

:shocked::shocked: That's UGLY! That's twice my commute.

Mine consists of 32 miles, one way, driveway to driveway. 6 miles of county road, 8 miles of state highway, 15 miles of interstate and 3 more of state highway. At times even this gets old but other times it's a wind down time. Also, any kind of store is at least 20 miles away from our house so our trip home consists of getting our "provisions".

The house I am in now is 2 miles from work, but I have lived in 3 other
places in the past 12 years while working here, they averaged 10 miles
away.

It is nice to just run home for lunch (time permitting) gives me a break
from work, and a lot less $$$ than buying lunch every day!

On the warm summer days when I'm on my bike, I wish I lived further!

:D

I'm retired now, so commuting for me is about a 100' walk to my shop. However, I spent many years in So. California where commuting is elevated to an art form. My answer was to do as little driving as possible and time everything to avoid the morning and evening rush hours. I've seen traffic back up for miles because of one little fender bender. Rubberneckers were the worst though, because they can take a small problem and make it worse by tenfold.
When I moved back to No. California, commuting largely went away for me and my customers did the commuting. I once had a regular who put 80 thousand miles a year on his car. We changed his oil every month but his brakes went forever.
Now that I'm living in Missouri, slow traffic is a tractor moving down the road to another field. And, people still wave to you as you drive along.
