How Bad Can a free lawn tractor be?

I use to mow 1.5 acreas with a 36" deck... took 5 beers. Now mow with a 60" deck and it takes only 2 beers. Cut mowing time from 5 to 2 beers.

LOL that's cracks me up.. Probably won't see that unit of measure used in a Lawn mower brochure. "Cut your mowing time by 3 beers".

Thanks for the encouragement, Roy. I respect all the opinions of the knowledgeable people on this board. Don't know how many beers it takes a CC 1515 to mow 2 acres. I suppose the local heat index will be a big factor for that one.

Haven't picked up the CC yet. As of last week, my brother-in-law talked to his friend and said it was mine. My brother-in-law already has the keys and manual. I hope to pick it up within the next two weeks. I'm just waiting for the guy to say I can pick it up (He travels a lot). On the one hand I'm in no hurry to get it because I'm not moving for another month and-a-half and it will just sit in my one-car garage, but on the other hand I'd like to get it and be sure this is a done deal. I'll be sure to post a pic when I get it.

As the first guy who suggested trading it off, I agree with Roy. When I worked with a moving company, people often gave us stuff they just didn't want anymore. I have a really good vice a guy just gave to me 'cause I happened to be the one packing the room it was in. He just wanted to be rid of it.

Well, I finally got it. Actually had it for about 5 weeks now. Total hours on it when I got it were 67. I asked the guy what he wanted for it and he said just a case of beer so I think that's a pretty good deal.

I have cut my lawn with it and it is fun but honestly it took longer than I'm willing to spend every week. What does anyone think a fair selling price would be if I wanted to sell it? Thanks.

They sell for around $1000 new don't they? If it takes too long, why not trade it in on a bigger machine?

I agree with you, I mowed 2 acres with a 48" deck, and even that got to be too long, but I had hills and obstacles to mow around also.

If you are near a major metropolitan area, check on CraigsList, and see what comparables are going for. Otherwise, Start looking for your "dream machine" and see what a dealer might do for a trade-up?

if your land is relatively flat, you might look into a zero turn mower. I went from a 48" deck on an old JD to a Dixon with a 42" deck and cut my time to mow an acre from 1.5-2 hours down to 45 minutes or so. (I know, I know - some folks think it's heresy to go from green to blue, but the JD was actually orange, so it's all a wash, right? )

Thats a nice little machine, but I agree with Erik, I bought a Toro Z Timesaver 42" and that little thing just flies ! I cut somewhere between an acre to 1 1/2 acres in about 45 minutes ! Plus there is a place for a beer, built in of course !

ok...OK...what's WRONG with you guys. The idea is to keep cutting the lawn thereby continuing to drink BEER !! The wife will see you almost working really hard...... in the heat & all...... & will allow the continuation of drinking cool beverage's. What happens when you finish. If you just relax in a lawn chair & continue to drink BEER The woman folk are apt to get upset. So.....make sure you have a small grass cutting machine as well as a large tractor for the big stuff !! You guys gotta be thinking these angles through.

Long story.....My neighbour is an elderly guy who had recent cancer problems and he clears old yard and huals scrap for a living so when he was sick i helped him and in the load of junk was a murray 11hp so i picked it out and with a few new belts my wife cut 3 acres with it for 2 summers ,It finally quit last week so i treated her to a new 20 hp zero turn cub cadet " She deserved it ".

Thanks for all the replies, guys. Like I said, it is a fun little mower. Runs great and all, but I just don't have the time each week to dedicate to mowing 2 acres with this thing. I was thinking of breaking up the lawn into two separate acres and alternating cutting them every other week, but I like the like the look of having the whole lawn mowed. I would hate to sell it but I agree that a faster ZTR would be the way to go. Still not sure if I'll put it on Ebay or Craigslist. Maybe wait until early next spring.
