Sorry for the stupid question, but how do all of you who store mid mount mowers upright for the winter prop them up on a wall? My boys are gone now so have to do it by myself and need storage space in my new shop. Mower is 72" mid mount mower off JD 955. Do you use a hoist, winch or just pry it upright? Darn thing is too heavy for me to lift by myself.

Before I always had a flat level surface to store in outdoor garage so just pulled it off to the side but now need to economize space in small shop. Thanks for your help.

Could you use the loader to get it vertical and place it on a hand truck? Then wheel it into place against the wall.

I've been using Larry Mower Axles for 10+ years now:

I roll it up to the bench, back the tractor up to it, gently lift it up with the 3ph and strap it to the bench. My back won't allow any other method :(

Ryan, look closer - those are actually small wheels - makes me wish my Cub RZT 50 deck gauge wheels were designed that way... Steve

now that is just plain cool! first time ever seeing something like that... taking off the gauge wheels and tossing in a bar with a couple rubber ends on it.
Those are wheels, make it easy to scoot it around

I did the same as kenny only made my own used 1" shaft drilled and tapped holes in the end and used a set of retired lawnboy wheels . Put them on every time the deck comes off to clean up deck and sharpen blades . Get lots of comments from fellow farmers who visit my shop.

I move mine around with a hand truck. Tuck it against a wall in the shed and secure it with a strap. I thought of buying something to help move it about and then discovered how easy it was to move with a hand truck.

I have a chain fall hanging from barn track that runs the width of my barn. First, I pick it up with that, then set it on this:

With casters that swivel a full 360° I can move it very easily, in any direction, one end or both ends. Much handier than just back and forth in my opinion.

To store my wife's mid mount mower from her BX 2670 I drilled a hole in the steel beam of my shop then put a celvis there. I used a safety chain from a boat trailer to hold it. This is also make it easy to remove the blades for sharpening.

I lift or move my MMM with the FEL. For service, I lay it upside down on sawhorses outside to scrape the grass pack, the blades and hardware there, or even paint it. While it is upside down, the gear oil is drained into a bucket, to be refilled later in the project. On sawhorses , outside, the working height is convenient, the dirt or overspray is no problem in my gravel work area. The guide wheels, blade hardware and driveshaft are cleaned later and stored in the basement. Lastly, after a greasing, the MMM is stored outside over the old sandbox on slats/ a skid, then covered with a good tarp. Having two sets of blade hardware and blades ( to be sharpened/cleaned later), it is ready to go in the spring by using the FEL (with chains on the bucket hooks) to move it for mounting again.
Cheers,
Mike

I use a set of home made axle shafts and set of old lawn mower wheels to store my deck upright...
They aren't very pretty, fit kinda loose, but work just fine... And were cheap to put together....

Besides... It makes it a lot easier to clean out the under side after you set it up with the loader....

Good luck...

Problem solved. Bought a pair of pallet forks that attach to loader bucket. Secured lift arms and pto shaft on mower then attached tow strap. Lifted mower upright with forks and attached axles like Wyobuckaroo mentioned. I used 10" pneumatic tires purchased at Harbor Freight for $6 and seems to work pretty well. Thanks for the help guys.

Nice job. Did you paint those wheels? I don't recall HF selling chrome ones....

Those are actually zinc plated hubs. They have wheels with black, white, and zinc hubs. Got the zinc because I thought they looked sexier. Kind of like the old saying that wheels make the car <g>.

The mower axles were built starting with a 2' section of 5/8 all thread rod. Then covered that with 1/2" conduit. Put 3/4" conduit over the 1/2" and then put 1" conduit over the 3/4". Drilled hole through all 3 conduits down to the all thread rod and used tap and die set to insert set screw to hold everything together. Secured tires with washers and bolts. This is going to be useful for saving space, cleaning deck, and sharpening blades. This forum is great. Always get the answers I'm looking for. Thanks to all for being so helpful.
