Great point. I think what happened is there's a chain on the rototiller that is connected to the plastic protective sheath that goes around the PTO shaft. I clipped the one end on to the pin that holds the lift arm, which must have put pressure on it and caused the pin to break, thus causing the lift arm to fall, and sheer the filler neck.

Don't those Deeres have a hole on the pto guard?
