Horn for B3030?

I've been lurking and participating on this forum for several years and I in general feel quite at home here. I suspect most of the people who contribute here wear denim at least 5 days out of the week and that is refreshing. This horn thing is starting to scare me. What's wrong with a spirited "Hey %!& &#$@ get the #$&@ out from in front of the #^@ tractor before I run over your %!&. This worked for my father and I suspect it worked for his father? It communicates and relieves stress, all at the same time and it's free at least until the ACLU finds out about it?

RE: Horn for B3030! I sent another e-mail to Kubota,and asked if and why couldn't the optional Horn Kit for the new B26 can be installed on the B3030. They responded specifically, and said contact your Dealer who are the experts in parts and installation. I guess the response was on a Friday or a Monday........a pass the buck response as it would seem.

FYI......the B26 Horn Kit has the center functioning button (Red) on the lights switch cluster, however on our B3030 it is a dead (take up space button).

I think I'll order a B26 Horn Kit and adapt it to the B3030. Fuze, hot wire, switch cluster, and ground.

A horn? I don't get it! Where are we cruising with our tractors that we need a horn? If it's just for a novelty you can buy a compact portable compressed air horn in many sporting goods stores that will let loose with a 120 decibel blast that anyone within miles will hear. I think the horn on my cars or truck could be broken for years before I'd know. I hit the brakes instead of the horn.

Re; The B3030 Horn. I learned today from a Dealer in North Carolina that the optional "Horn Kit" for the new B26 can be installed on the B3030. I am waiting for a response as to the contents in the "Kit".

It should contain:

• Proper Wire Leads
• Horn Relay
• Fuze/Fusible Link
• Light/Switch Cluster Assembly w/Red Center Horn Button
• Horn
• Mounting Hardware

Will let you know when I get a confirm if you would like to install one on your B3030.

Turn signals are a very important safety device especially the hazard flashers if driving the tractor on a highway or in traffic. But when a vehicle that travels at the most at about 15 mph what safety do we gain having a horn installed? Are we worried about kids running out in front of the tractor? Cars backing out of the driveway? These situations can be solved by slowing or just stopping. I can't think of a single safety reason to have a horn.

Anytime there are humans anywhere near a tractor, such as in a case where kids come running around when you are working on a tractor (kids tend to get in a zone and not pay much attention in their own yard - they do that because they know the dangers of playing in the street). Also, on any type of jobsite situation, where there are laborers of some sort, whether it's paid laborers or family laborers, the horn is very often heard better than you trying to yell over the noise of the engine. It's also a useful tool to get the attention or communicate in some way with someone in another vehicle or on another tractor either crossing your path or working in conjunction with you.

I've always had a horn on my tractors, and if I were to buy one that didn't have one, I'd put one on in short order. There is a reason why all the construction equipment have horns, and a horn on a private owner's tractor can be just as useful.

Well said Bandit! Like you, I feel this free site is an excellent tool to share information, not consternation. Aside from all that, I am in the process of getting the authorized Kubota 'parts list' and wiring recommendations from an out of state dealer on Tuesday, and will post it here so other owners can adapt the horn device as they wish.

As always, I appreciate the friendly and helpful dialog here.

I also wanted to mention about the Maintenance and Troubleshooting/Service Manuals the Kubota Dealers use.

I learned that the customer can in fact - purchase an identical set through the 'Parts Dept'. Example, for the B3030, I got a complete price of $47.00. That is for the complete set, it includes tweeks, maintenance procedures, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.....ect.

Not a bad price. If you need the Part Number for the manuals I can post it here, or the Dealer will have it.

Before I address my question, I have contacted my Dealer, and they do not
have the technicial information needed.

I own a new (Top of the Line)B3030 Tractor that has no HORN available - as an option, which should be part of the bells and whistles, turn-signals,
flashers ect. as numerous owners rank it as a shortcoming.

Question: Since the Light Switch on the B3030 is almost a Composite Switch
with a dummy horn button, can the Light Switch on the new B26 be used with
a Kubota Horn for a B3030? (I am aware the wiring harness is not wired for
a Horn). However,on the United Kingdom B3030, they come with a Horn. Also,
I notice behind the Headlights on my B3030 Hood the bracket is there for
the Horn.

I also need to know, does the current B26 Horn Kit use a Horn Relay and 10
Amp Fuze? Or, does the B26 Composite Light Switch with Horn Button just
use a Hot and a Ground, no relay and so on? I do want to have a Horn on
the Tractor for Safety Purposes, not a novelty.

Please try and give me some guidance, so I can aquire the parts from my
dealer, and wiring application for my B3030.

Sorry I don't want to sound harsh but Just because you don't think its a safety device means nothing to me. I don't even know your reasons for even posting such a statement. You ask 20 people if a horn is a safety device everyone but you would say it is.
It may not be a required safety device but it is for safety.
A horn on anything from a car, go cart truck or train if could be used to get someone's attention let someone know were right behind them , warn them, get there attention, Stop their action it's a safety device. It's more a safety device then not. I will bet you if there was an accident involving someone backing into a tractor and someone getting hurt a lawyer would make mince meat out of Kubota for not having a horn available. But a horn is a safety device if it's on a car, truck, boat, bicycle, train or tractor even if you think it is not. I respect your opinion but I its wrong, sorry. I want a horn because I have a cab and I don't want to open the door and yell to get someone's attention. When I first posted in this thread I mentioned that the horn on my cars or trucks could be broken for weeks and I'd never know it because I have never driven any vehicle (which by the way have a cab and are much lower and more quiet than a tractor) and used a horn as a safety device. I use brakes and the steering wheel as my first line of defense. I have never had to roll down my window and yell to avoid an accident. And in 45 years of driving I have never had an accident.

But maybe I'm wrong! Maybe a horn is a safety device. But I don't think it is BUT if I felt that is was I wouldn't waste time even arguing about it on TBN. I would have required the dealer to install a horn as part of the deal when purchasing a tractor. If I bought it used I would have bought a 12 volt horn, bought a horn button, some wire and mounted it. It's not that hard to do.

If you feel you need a horn as a safety device go for it. Install it if your tractor doesn't have one. But if you really feel that way you shouldn't be operating your tractor without it installed. If Kubota sold you a tractor that makes you liable as the result of an accident and it is proved the lack of a horn was the cause then you can sue or enjoin them in your lawsuit for selling you a defective product.

I can't understand why people who think a horn is a safety device would continue to operate their tractor without it installed. It is not a required safety device. But if you feel it should be...install it today and then write a letter to Kubota and whoever you feel would support your point of view.

I know that all the safety devices that are installed on my tractor are installed on it because people were injured or lost their lives before they were required. But...there is no horn installed. If I felt a horn was a safety device and the manufacturer's legal department and the government were wrong I would have installed one myself.

I don't mean to offend anyone. I just happen to think a horn is not a safety device and don't understand why anyone who feels they need one are waiting for Kubota to agree with them.

You don't want a horn. You haven't used a horn in 45 years. This post was for people looking to get a horn for their tractor. It is brought to our attention that a factory horn button may be available. We are interested in a horn that is why we are reading this post.
Your not intersted in a horn. You should post to things you are interested about. Or if you have some info on the factory horn set up. I don't want to have a seaprate horn button. I want it as Bruce shows it for the b26.
I want to thank Bruce for doing all the ground work for us.
By not using your horn in 45 years is great. But again it doesn't matter to me what you think about horns. The title of the post is not Tell us what you think about horns. Move on to something you like.
Kubota may come back with a sorry we cant help you with that horn kit. If thats the case I will buy the b26 light switch and install my own horn. I like the steps that Bruce has taking. I don't think we should be taking someones advice that hasn't used a horn in 45 years.

This is what the B26 horn option button looks like, this is what we are looking for a factory button. Kubota has a work light option , rear wiper option, rear defrost option why not a horn option all Kubota needs to know is that we want this option and we will get it , Kubota is all for selling options. gotcha Just wondering what you used for a horn button on your B26? you said in an earlier post that you installed a horn.
Did you have the factory button already or did you install another button?

I really didn't mean to annoy or anger anyone about this issue. If you can find out how to purchase or install a horn button that is, or looks like it is factory installed, and can pass on that information that's great.
