Homemade log splitter. Anybody made one?

yep reinforced on bottom under plate no issues in 14 yrs. bigger base so it will stand on its own when not hooked up

mine has an 1 1/4 inch plate on the bottom and I managed to bend it a little with a stubborn large piece of maple. it's only a 3 inch cylinder set at 1800 psi but I guess the leverage of pushing 18 inches out from the base helped to tweak it a little.

I have built one before with alot of scavenged parts but at this price I wouldnt bother any more.

22ton is $999. Anything that needs more than 22ton is going on the burn pile not the wood shed. Plenty of wood here to pick from.

I've got to be honest, in todays economy you might can pick up a decent log splitter from somewhere like Northern Tools for less than you can build it for. When you factor in the cost of steel, the cost of a strong hydraulic cylinder, the cost to plumb it, the 3PH. (assuming it's not a pull behind) IDK maybe you've got a connection to get a strong I-beam and some think, scrape metal for fairly cheap, and a used hydraulic cylinder that doesn't need new seals or rebuilding, but I find making your own things (while very cool, and rewarding for sure) doesn't benefit you in costs saving like it did 15-20 years ago. Plus if it breaks there's no warranty. IDK, you have to ask yourself, "is the juice worth the squeeze?".
