Still no source for creating a liquid creosote from these flakes.

Sounds like you have the solution with diesel. If you want it dissolved quicker/before mixing, maybe some turpentine?

There are lots of good sites online about protecting wood. I used to soak post bottom in used motor oil, ok but not good as creosote.

Used diesel motor oil needs some thinning with diesel to really soak into wood. And you need to apply in the middle of summer. Some cow barn wall planks sat for 50 years and were hard as nails at farmers who oil painted them every summer
