I graduated hs in 1967 - spent 1 year in college and then worked and tried to make ends meet through the 70s. Missed that book etc. as I was kinda busy so maybe schools through the 70s were different. Authors do interesting things to sell books.

At some point it is likely that overpopulation will be a problem.

El Niño has been liked to most of the wild changes in weather.

Precisely what causes an El Niño pattern to develop, is still being debated. Many believe there are other such phenomenon we simply do not know about.

In an era of man making great scientific achievements, many have the tendency to jump to conclusions based on what we know, or what we think we know. The fact is, there is still a lot we simply do not know, and nothing is ever absolutely proven in science.

Seems like extreme things are taking place...wonder why?

Don't know, just like I wonder when I watch on the Discovery Science channel a series of programs about the dinosaures, and the paleontologists state that the earth's temperatures were up to 7 degrees F hotter millions of years ago, and that the north and south poles only froze over for several weeks. They also state that earth had the most abundent and varied plant life and species on the planet ever. Humans are barely a blip on the radar screen of life on earth.

So hundreds of millions of years ago, the weather by your understanding, and explaining it, along with cited articles Loren, was way off the chart of extreme.

There will be another ice age as well. Saw that program also.

Acceleration of gravity seems pretty certain, earth revolves around the sun, photosyntesis (inputs and outputs), krebs cycle, cellular respiration, things contract when cooled except water at about 32 degrees F etc........there is a vast body of pretty solid science. Most of it found by scientific study and investigation. Clearly much more to discover.

No argument that it was warmer or cooler in past times - also humans couldn't have survived in some of those times. Now the question - is human activity accelerating climate change? - vast body of scientists who study this say yes - oil companies, many talking heads on the air waves and many others say no.

'Morning Loren,

The truth is that we just don't know. I tend to believe that we can't make that big a difference and that what we're seeing is natural. However that said, I have to agree with you that good stewardship requires us to try to limit the effects we create. The best answer is probably going to lie somewhere in the middle between the two extremes.

They also admit that they can't prove that man is causing the CO2 increase, which is what they claim is causing the alleged warming.

And, they also can't prove if the alleged temperature increases are due increased CO2 levels, or if the CO2 is increasing because the temperature is increasing.

As long as you keep thinking that most everyone who does not agree is, either in bed with the oil co's, brainwashed by talking heads, or ignorant, you will continue to be mistaken.

There is no doubt my side has people in these categories, However, the higher percentage of the brainwashed, misinformed, and ignorant, are on your side of this. They are being frightened into blindly joining the campaign to give up our ways in the name of saving the world, by never ending propaganda.

Can it be proved that man is not contributing to the increased CO2 levels and that those levels don't contribute to warming? Clearly the accepted scientific experiment can't be done for obvious reasons. Can it therefore be concluded that it isn't happening. ...... Not a very strong argument but an easy way to cast doubt.

It seems logical the thousands of tons of CO2 that have been released by the burning of oil and coal for the past 100 years could contribute to the documented increased levels.

If scientific evidence is classified as propaganda your argument has some validity. I argue that a search on google for many global warming related topics will demonstrate the level of propaganda on the skeptic's side.

You could define "our ways" - we should agree to disagree on the makeup of each group - and my feelings of those with the skeptic view is not as you describe. If we paid the full cost of fuel at the pump you might want to change "our ways". (Part of the $1 trillion defense costs per year (present and veterans expense- keeps the oil flowing)

Our efficient us of fuels and energy independence will benefit our Country and way of life.

Excuse me, but, if the environmentalists are going to put forth the theory that man is causing global warming, then the burden is on them to prove it. At least they could provide some convincing evidence, that would be something other than a guess, before they force radical changes in our lives.

It seems logical the thousands of tons of CO2 that have been released by the burning of oil and coal for the past 100 years could contribute to the documented increased levels.

Lots of things "seem logical" that end up not as they look. This is not a basis for changing they way we live.

Let me know if you find anything as egregious as public schools forcing children to watch Algore's move, along with threatening their parents that if they don't watch it, it will affect their child's grade. Or, scaring children with the Polar Bears are going to die.

Like it or not, this country runs on oil, and that is not going to change anytime soon. We are no where near a viable alternative to oil.

Yes, I know part of the "environmentalists dream" is to restrict our oil production, which clearly we are now doing, so that we have $5/gallon gasoline. And, force us to curtail our enjoyment of our big cars, trucks, SUV's, boats, and airplanes.

$5 gas in this country would have a devastating effect on our economy due to the industries it would destroy, and the price increases, especially in food, which we grow for a large portion of the world, hitting the poor, particularly the hardest.

In the mean time, while the brakes the environmentalists are putting on the US economy brings it searchingly toward that of a third world country, China among others, will be amazed that we were actually stupid enough to destroy ourselves, and will laugh while they continue to build coal fired power plants, drill and use oil, produce uncontrolled smog, which by the way you may have noticed they are doing all of these unabated right now, and grow their economy to the point they can control the entire world.

Wanna bet when the take over the world, the first thing they will do is shoot the environmentalists?
