Does anyone have any experience with the above MFG? I am considering purchase of the 14K lb capacity model 700 gooseneck to move my NH TN-70 with FEL, (bushhog, and disc to purchase later). I'm pulling it behing my F250 PSD. I believe the dealer has a good rep and has been around for years. If anyone can comment on the quality and use of this trailer I would appreciate it. At $7.5K, this is a major purchase. I have never pulled a trailer this large before so any suggestions as to options etc also are appreciated.

I consider Hillsboro to be toward the higher end in quality and price when I have looked at trailers. In general, they make a very good trailer but more expensive than most.

You need 25' of deck space. (not 20 + 5, that just blows)
I have a TN75 on a 25' Econoline tilt, (so the whole 25' is deck space)
I can fill it up with most implements and the FEL. In fact, right now it has a FEL, no bucket, an 8' cutter (which are reasonably short) and it's pretty much within a foot of the back of the trailer.

but a 14k trailer gooseneck on a Chevy 2500HD pulls fine. Your F250 will do fine.
You are right in the weight line (as long as your tires aren't loaded, I suppose I should say that, if your tires are loaded, you could be overweight))

You are going to use ramps a lot, get easy to use ramps.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I am concerned about the overall length and deck space. I thought the ramps that fold up into flat deck space would solve some of the problem as this makes that 5' usable. Also, folding these were pretty effortless as I didn't want to have to wrestle with them either.

The tilt decks are interesting, I hadn't looked at them. I can see how these may make it a little easier in getting the machine on/off. I would think it would be kinda scary having 3 tons of machine tilting forward though. Maybe Lone cowboy, could share his experiences with this type of trailer. Are there any downsides with this type trailer? Does it affect the location of the axels and maybe handling at all? Thanks.

It's very fast on and off and you get all the usable deck space for the length. You obviously can't put the heavy part with the pin in (not moving) past pivot pin (all the weight is then on the pin). But it's never been an issue. The pivot pin is right in between the axles, so it's pretty easy to load. Mine is not a powered tilt (some are) and it has a cylinder that slows the tilt up and down. Really, not an issue. My wife loves it (no ramps).

Can be very hard to get up when the bed is wet and/or covered in snow (don't ask). Have to get a running start so to say. (could be tires of the tractor too)

Maybe it's just this one, but man, terrible. If you get it perfectly placed it's fine, but move the tractor 1" one way or the other and it will beat you to death.


See, with a regular trailer, you load the tractor and with a bush hog, how are you going to close the ramps? You need like a 28' or more (with a TN) to get enough clear deck space to close the ramps, then get back up and move the tractor back to get the weight balance right. I dunno, just seemed like a pain to me.

The trailer probably needs a stronger towbar, because it is attached to the axle, and is not welded to the front part of the bed. IT has a longer "free carrying" towbar length than normal trailers.

My TN-70 is roughly 16' from the bucket to just past the rear tires. I haven't bought the Bush Hog yet, but the Model 287 is 10'-6" which puts me close to 27ft. Not sure how much I can lift the bush hog, in order to get the ramps lifted onto the beavertail. I will be talking to my dealer tomorrow, and try to see what he recommends. Hopefully they make a 28'. I'm sure they would make any length I need within reason, but I'm not looking for custom pricing.

well, i haven't noticed any real difference in price (so much more per foot), no real "custom" prices. They don't seem to care much

BUT
longer trailer is a heavier trailer, meaning you can tow less.
TN series tractors aren't light, neither is a big old bushhog.
just a thought for ya.

But you need a CDL to pull it.

20,000lb rated trailer plus 9900 (or whatever) rated truck equals over 26,000lbs
CDL required.
UNLESS
recreational vehicle, snow emergency (probably don't get many of those in Florida ), some other exceptions that don't apply
There's no way all those people running those 20k trailers have CDL's

I spoke with the dealer and I pretty much can get any length. I'd rather try to keep this at the length I need, as I would think a longer trailer affects the capacity, as well as manuverability. Is it an issue with driving on with the FEL and bush hog, pull up with the bucket lifted to clear the gooseneck, lower the ramps, and reposition the trailer? This would allow me to use a 22' deck with 5' BT. This trailer also allows me to drive with the ramps straight up, and I can raise the center section of the BT that would solve the whole thing.

I walked through the lot at the Hillsboro Kansas manufacturing plant today to check out dump trailers. One word sums it up; WOW !!!!! The quality appears to be top notch. I was always impressed with PJ trailers but have noticed their quality dropping off so I started looking at different brands. I'm pretty sure that my new trailer is going to be a 14' bumper pull dump trailer by Hillsboro.

They make a nice trailer. My neighbor has the same one you are looking at but he wishes he would have gotten a 18' so he could haul his tractor with a FEL and a bush hog.
