In Canada,...we have an annual Census taking day to locate all the "Freekin-Idiots". What we do is hold it all over the country on the days that brings one half inch of good quality snow.

Then all the "Freekin-Idiots" come out for Census and without being asked or directed, they simply go ahead and do all the stupid driving they can possibly think of.

Then they all try to park backwards or sideways in the ditches. If they can't find an empty ditch, they are allowed to get up some speed, then close their eyes, scream loudly and slam on the brakes just as hard and long as it takes to spin out and slam into anything at all.

Not sure but I think the prize goes to the one that does the most damage and kills and/or maims the most people.

Now of course the idea is to locate and register all the actual "Freekin-Idiots",at the beginning of winter...but you know our people in charge are usually too excited and involved in the idea of the Census, (try to be first in ditch) to think of recording the Census as planned, consequently not many records are kept. (probably because they'd have to list themselves first!)

I seriously think we should have winter driving licenses. Learn to drive in winter conditions, pass the test and get a winter license.

If you get in a winter accident and you "don't" have a winter license,...you "LOSE" your vehicle and license for the winter!!! Come back in spring to claim your vehicle and license, pay a fine and pay all costs for the accident and towing etc. That might slowly eliminate "some" of our "Freekin-Idiots" ????

That should be cause to elliminate the stupid excuses that generally start with: "Oh goodness, I had no idea it was so slippery till I tried to turn with my brakes applied,...and then,..er,..ah

Same everywhere I guess. I learned to drive by "instincts" by doing spin-outs and trying to correct on frozen plazas in the middle of the night or on frozen lakes after checking for air pockets etc. Also learned to get UNstuck by trial and error when all alone and either get out or freeze!!

Anyway, a safe and happy winter "drive" to all!!!

CHEERS!

PS: Absolutely NO offense to the Texas Highway Dept. because how else do you learn certain things? MANY years ago driving across Texas, we hit a freak storm and the roads and especially the bridges froze to sheer ice. Cars all over. As we waited for them to clear the road of cars, a sand truck showed up at last and as instructed (I guess) spread sand on the icy bridge. Except these guys were new at the job, (no offense) and dumped the entire load on the bridge and spread it two feet thick before waving the first cars through. Naturally the cars sunk into the sand and we were finally detoured down some side roads out of the area.
I must admit we had a bit of a chuckle. I was tempted to run up and tell the guys how to do it but didn't. They learned the hard way. I admit we were shocked to run into such weather there!
My best wishes to the Texas Highway Dept guys if you happen to read this,...especially if you were the ones involved!

They were not new at the job they just never had to do that before. :D a few years ago here in LA we had a snow storm they closed the interstate from baton rouge to New Orleans. why. . . because we don't know how to drive and because we don't have the equip. to deal with it.

Central PA - we got snow earlier than usual. I haven't even tilled up the garden yet. Couple of days where it didn't break 37, and overnights in the 20's. We normally get that about a month from now. I shouldn't have to shovel my sidewalks and porches before halloween.

I know at least one dealer on this Board mentioning he made some sales for snowplows already.

as we've had rain in the past severel weeks, we B in store for a big blizzard,

Hush up! We're not that far from you. The Blizzard of '93 was plenty and then some, thank you very kindly.:eek::eek:

Truth be told, you may be on to something. If these precip patterns continue, we better be loaded for bear. :(:(

Yeah, I remember that well. We had about 2 feet at my house. Power was out for 6 days. No phone, no TV. My girls just about went stir crazy. I told them to pretend we were on vacation at a ski resort.:D

We couldn't get out of our yard for 3 days (uphill to road). Only ones on the road were tugboat-2's "Freekin-Idiots".

I enjoyed the week off, though. I had my own vacation, cause I could still walk to my shop and hide...err...work.
