I made this trailer for a bud some years ago. It still works pretty good on occasion. It's eight by twelve and carrying three full Cat bucket's worth.

I started with an all steel truck bed with a Harsh Hoist (pto). A couple of seven thousand Dexter Torkflex axles and a twelve volt pump, dump trailer.

And it works, often, and well.

Finally, that damp clay, (notice I used a "p" instead of an "n"?

It's a really simple trailer. Here's a shot of the stuff that does the work.

Isn't that the dump trailer you rebuilt after it came unhooked? If so it is nice to see its still going and staying attached like you planned.

Yup.

That puppy did a one and a half with a twist and Timex'd. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice trailer! If I can get some working room around here I plan to gleefully plagiarize it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif How do you calculate the axle setback on the trailers you build? I was taught to set the axles back a foot from the center of the bed and that has worked out OK on the trailers I have built. The 16 footer I have now has the lead axle 4" back of the centerline and it tows great. Where do you set 'em?

I always try to figure in enough tongue weight for the trailer to handle empty. But I also want the trailer to handle well with a load. It only took bud one ride with this trailer loaded improperly to discover the proper way to load it.

Here's kitty kitty with two yards plus in a one and quarter yard bucket.

Once upon a time there was a friend of mine who had hundreds of yards of dirt that needed to be moved. And I also had another friend who needed hundreds of yards of dirt for fill.

The three and a half to four yard loads with the dump trailer was taking too long.

So we got a big gal involved, "Bue Angel".

Yesterday she hauled nine loads to bud's place and three to a neighbor's. It's twenty plus yards to a load.

She'll be hauling today and tomorrow too.

Blue Ox even with a Bobcat bucket is biting into a lot to chew.

I guess it's one of those things where you have a little leeway. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I like to ask, even if the way I'm doing things is working. Just because it works doesn't mean I can't learn a better way of doing things.

Yesterday about twelve thirty I arrived at my bud's to find this.

Each mound is the deposit of a twenty yard end dump. And they were predicting rain. This is all clay.

But there's always a way to get out. Even if it involves chewing a humble pill.
