Here comes the RAIN !!!

I know you guys in Central Texas are dry as a bone; however, the Red River counties in N. Central Texas are getting a beautiful rain shower right now. I'm on the southern edge of a nice line of showers and I've had over 1/2" in the last two hours. This could be a major summer event and I'm thrilled. Any rain at the end of June is welcome. Lots of rain is pure joy. Woohoo!

It sure does appear that it's going to go by north of me, but I'm still hoping for the 30% that's in the forecast.

Well, Denton is going to get some, so maybe it will "scoot" on down to Corinth too.

I'm over an inch now and Kathy just told me there were two very wet turkey hens in our yard. The birds are chirping a happy tune in harmony with mine.

Yep, Jim, Margaret sent me on an errand near downtown Denton and I got into a real nice shower up there, but I'm not sure the few drops on the windshield in my neighborhood would qualify as a "trace". The bottom of my rain gauge is still dry.

I guess I spoke too soon. We did finally get about .08" of rain here in a nice, but fairly brief shower. Less than a tenth of an inch ain't much, but it's sure better'n nothing.

I was in Tyler today and seemed to be right behind the storms. I went to Atwoods to buy some catfish food and the parking lot was soaked. I never saw a drop of it coming down. Then when I drove towards a realtors office, it was dusty dry, but Steph called me to tell me that she was in a storm at Hobey Lobby that was so strong the power was flickering on and off. That was less then a mile from where I was meeting the realtor and it was dusty dry outside. Then when I got home, it was totally dry out, but my brother was hit by a storm so bad that he couldn't drive while on the way here from Tyler. Two days of rain all around me, but not one drop here.

Well it looks like we will finaly get some rain this month. Even if it waited until the last day of the month. Been coming down heavy now for 20 minutes.

I was actually putting in some seat time on the tractor cleaning out the side ditch that had been bone dry.

I guess that just Texas weather for you. Just when you think you got it figured out it changes.

Today it rained everywhere but where I am... or so it seems. Rain in Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown. Extreme drought continues.

That goes for where I am as well. Not a drop on the place. But, 6 miles north it was raining pretty good as I got a haircut.

Looks like we got about half an inch of rain last evening. Not enough to close the cracks in the gumbo soil but enough to jump start the grass again.

The hay farmers will be happy. A lot of them have got their first cuttings out of the way.

We had clouds and some lightning just about all day yesterday. A few of the cells on the radar looked like they were heading my way, but every one of them just desolved before getting here. My next chance for rain is this weekend, but it's only a 20% chance as of right now. I was at 40% for the last two days without getting a drop.

John and Lee, with your luck, it will rain buckets the day after you sell and move.

I'm not meaning to make fun of your situation. I can remember how depressed I was during the years I've had drought in my area. I used those times to clean out ponds and work in areas that are normally under water. Still, I found myself in a general state of malaise most of the time. I feel for you guys and hope you get some rain, but history shows that's a slim possibility over the summer. Hopefully, fall will be kinder to you.

The skies dropped 0.2" on us yesterday morning. Hey, add another inch over the rest of the month and July will equal June. We are about only 2.5" below normal for this time of year.

Only .42" here so far today, but a possibility of more to come. And another great thing is the high temperture so far today is only 81F.

I've been lucky again. We had 0.8" before noon today. It's been cool and damp, very nice for July 5th.

Eddie, from the weather forecast, it looks like ********* got a downpour and winds of 60 mph. If those missed you, you were probably lucky. We had no lightning or wind here, just nice gentle rain. Perfect!
