After more reading and discussing with friends/family who are tractor owners/farmers, I'm leaning heavily towards the L5740. It is more tractor than I need at the moment, but as the previous poster and others advise, it is better to go a little big than a little small.

I was hoping to get some feedback on the price quotes I received at this point since I may be deciding later this week. I don't need to get the absolute best deal out there, but would like to make sure I'm at least in the ball park, as I hate getting "taken" on price. Here are the quotes:

L5740 HSTC (4wd, Cab) 57 hp 50 pto hp: $28,100
Front End Loader LA854, quick attach, heavy duty round back bucket, grill guard: 4,400
Tiller (Woods, GT 60): 2,050
Finishing Mower - 6' (Woods, PRD-7200): 2,395
Rotary Mower - 7' (Woods, BB84): 2,500
Tooth Bar (Woods, CETB650): 300
Echo Bearcat Chipper/Shredder (SC5504B/73554): 3,600
18' BetterBuilt trailer, 7 ton, electric brakes: 3,500
Total 46,845

The 6' rotary/bush hog is about $900 less - thoughts on whether the extra foot is worth upgrading to for $900? Also, I can get a 20' instead of 18' trailer for $100 more -- thoughts on trailer size neede? Question on the tires -- they come in agricultural or industrial. Which one is what people keep referring to as R4 tires? Thanks!

Dave

R4 = industrial tires = lugs are less aggressive and tear up ground less than Ag tires.

I personally would go with the 6' mower and the 20' trailer and the R4's... sent you a PM on where you may want to get a price check..

Good luck. Chuck..

You might have chain hooks added to your bucket. I kinda went overboard with mine. A grab hook and slip hook on each side, one grab hook in the center. They are used far more frequently that I ever thought they would be.

I used this rig to ride in while a buddy drove slowly over the pasture so I could spray brush and mesquite. Safety folks.. I had a seat belt:)

That rig is great! Did the flight attendant serve cocktails and peanuts with that trip? ;-)

With the land you have you can go too small. Most of the uses you describe are for a tractor not a lawn mower. I would not consider using a finishing mower with my L3400.

Budget for many attachments. The tractor is an engine on wheels. The attachments do the work. Plus the're fun. :)
