i 1046 Cub Cadet
New to the board, Hi all.
Have a new Cub Cadet and love it.
My yard is loaded with lots of gardens and walkways.
The 180 Deg. turn around takes 1/2 Hour of the grass mowing job. With the old mower I had to go back and forth a few times to turn around in a tight spot, not any more.
I think I will learn from the board and may even contribute.

My new cub is a i1046.
Purchased from Home Depot in Canada.
The rig had been return with a problem of smoking when running and a strong smell of burning rubber. List was $2,595.00. They said make an offer for as is. OK how about $1,500.00. SOLD, take it away. I did.
At the store I had looked under the frame and saw rubber flecks on the cutting deck. The problem was a too long belt that was rubbing at the back of the belt at the idler pulley. A new belt 1.5" shorter did the trick. I explained the problem to the store manager, we checked out the fifteen in stock. All but two had long belts. I went in after closing and we changed all the belts. What did I get out of this. A nice new 8'
dumping trailer with a ramp tail gate and a regular gate for two hundred bucks. Thats 1/4 of the retail price.

Swing by my place later and have some fun.
We have had 8" of rain in a month and just before it started I put down a hefty amount of fertilizer.
At the moment, it's not fun.

HI you guys. Here is a pic of my super Home Depot bargain.
In an earlier post I told of getting a i1040 for almost half price and a trailer for a way less than half price.
Get to know your Home Depot manager.

Wow! I have the i1046 also... Actually, this is my third... The first one must have been assembled at 4:55pm on a Friday, because the frame flexed, and the drive belt popped off. Traded that one for a rock solid unit that served me well until some jerk stole it out of my yard. My wife and I were about to move at the time to a house with a larger yard, so it made it that much more of a pain. 2 acres, grass allergies, and a 22 inch push mower. Insurance came through, but the deductible was high enough that I had to wait. One day I was in Home Depot, and noticed the i1046 was on clearance. There's the third! Dang, I go through them like gang busters!

So, helpful hints... Watch out for stumps. My deck has taken a beating because I have some stumps that like to hide in the grass. Also, if you notice that it's not pulling like it should, that it doesn't turn one direction very well, or one tire appears to stall. There is an idler/tensioner adjustment on the clutch pedal that no one tells you about. The pin at the end of the clutch rod, when the clutch is disengaged, needs to be in the middle of its travel in the slot on the idler arm. As the belt wears, this changes and the clutch arm keeps proper tension off the belt. I found out the hard way. Should have been in the owners manual.

One other thing. Get the snow blade and some chains. You won't be sorry. Thing plows like a bull! Those dual hydro-stats are awesome when they push.
