Hi folks,

Quick question about trailering a 2310. I just bought a 77"x14' tandem trailer to haul my unit. It does fit, but does not allow me to lower the backhoe boom onto the deck ( unless I swing it to the side and then lower it ) Is it best to lower the boom in transport, or is keeping it up and locked ok? Just wondering about bumps etc... I COULD go with a 16', but I use this trailer around the yard and am just trying to keep the length down for convience. That and my Ford is only a 4.6L so extra weight is a concern, :) Any thoughts ???

Hi, that's the same size trailer I bought for my 2310 and also the same thought I had on length. I do have brakes on both axles. After having the trailer for a year I would go with a 16' next time.
When loading tractor (have to back it on for BH bottom clearance) I raise boom and dipper, back on trailer, put BH back in locked position with bucket resting on back rail of trailer with front bucket near front end of trailer. After securing tractor, I do put a strap on each side of bucket and secure to each side of trailer to stabilize any lateral movemnt of BH arm.

Thanks, ya I may have to get the 16', it does fit with the hoe angled on the deck, but if I want to haul the unit with an attachment like my yard rake with bucket attached I need about 15'. I guess 2 more feet won't add much for weight, 50 Lbs ? now I just need more power, my little 4.6L struggles a bit at highway speeds....

Just adding my 2 cents here. I went with a 16 landscape trailer to haul my 2310 around. It fits fine with the BH boom down on the deck. It is still a bit tight with the bush-hog attached, however. I went with a landscape trailer to save weight as my old Chevy PU only has a 6 cyl. It pulled it fine but I ended up trading for an 8 cyl anyway. I considered a shorter trailer but decided against it and I am now glad I did.

Thanks for the replies.... is it hard on the hoe to leave it up and latched when hauling ( bumps, etc... ) ? Or should a person always have it on the deck? When you see the bigger backhoes on trailers, no onehas the boom on the deck, so I am not sure....

I don't believe it matters if you leave the hoe up or put it down. I have actually done it both ways with no problem. I put mine down most of the time because I believe it gives the unit a bit more stability going down the road.

I don't use a trailer for my 2310 I put it on the back of my MB pickup. I have hauled it about 3500 mi. 2 trips from OH. to TX. and 1 trip TX to OH. It does drop my mileage to 18-19 mpg because of the aero drag. And I use the retaining link to hold the BH to keep it from bleeding off since I have to swing the boom to one side to haul.

What is a MB PU?
How do you get a 2310 on it with the loder and BH attached?

In Europe they call this a pickup made by Mercedes Benz. It is as wide and long as a standard 1/2 ton US pickup.

I made ramps to load it. Easy on and off.

That's a pretty slick setup--I like it. I bet it maneuvers like a dream in town compared to a standard PU.

Those sprinters are slick ! I haven't seen many in the C&C configuration around these parts. Perfect size for your tractor!

What a fascinating truck!
That's a great truck for hauling a BX23 on also.
All it needs is a bed a couple of feet longer so the hoe don't need to be turned to one side.
A bed that would dump like a dump truck and tilt like a rollback would make it the ultimate BX23 Massy 2310 or JD 2210 Hauler.
Such a set up would give you the benefits of A dump truck a roll back and a trailer all rolled into one vehicle.
How high is the bed above the ground?
Where did you come across the MB?
What engine does it have in it?
Is it front or rear wheel drive?

How is it classified for insurance and licensing purpose?

You all here in the USA have seen that truck, kind of. The truck is the same as the New Dodge vans that you see driving around now. I would bet you could buy one of the Dodge vans and do the same thing.

It is called the Dodge (Mercedes) Sprinter....

I bought it as a cab chassis and built the bed 11'6" and 80" wide. It is on the 140" wheelbase dually and could have gone to a 13' bed. On a 158" WB you can go to a 15' bed. I went with this size so I can park any where with out taking up 2 spaces. They do make a dump bed the dumps 3 directions left, right and to the back. You would have a ruff time making a van into a flatbed since the van is unibody and mine comes with a boxed frame. I kept it simple to save weight so I can haul more (5000#) have had 6500# of stone on the back when the loader guy got carried away still had about 1.5" of travel before hitting the bump stop. Didn't need a dump since I had a place to back up to a 3' high sandstone wall and I just drove on to the truck to unload. And the 55# aluminum ramps are faster and simpler then a rollback to load the 2310 even with the MMM. It is badged as a Dodge but it is all Mercedes. It has a 2.7L 5cyl. turbo diesel, of course it is rear wheel drive and a curb to curb 42' turn radius. They have been in the US since 2001 with Fed Ex and UPS. The picture Mr Steve put up is the 07- model, mine is a 04. In Tx. it is a 1 ton pickup. I think I answered every thing.

What's the future of the Sprinter with the Dodge/Mercedes marriage ending in divorce?

Any pictures of your set-up?

/ Hauling a GC2310 #16
Mercedes still has a small interest in Dodge and a large interest in Freightliner who also badges a Sprinter. It is too large of a market for Mercedes to take it away (FedEx & UPS). I posted a picture in a earlier post.

Thanks for posting .
I could use a dump bed.
Last summer I lost out on getting free fill dirt cause i didn't have a truck to haul it with.
Sure did hurt watching the guy who got the free dirt driving right past my place 4 or 5 times a day with all that free dirt on his little 1 ton dump flat bed truck.

4.6L has problem at highway speeds? My 2.7L does have to shift down when I have 4000# on the back with the cruise control set on 70 on 2 hills in MO on I44 and 1 hill with the 2310 on the back.

Sorry I couldn't help myself.
