Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Had Enough Yet??

Snow is fun until it starts to get dangerous....

We have over 30 collapsed buildings in town. Across the state the numbers of damaged or collapsed buildings is staggering. Just within 1/2 mile of my house is 3 collapsed barns, 2 garages, 1 house, and a large mess hall at the YMCA camp.

I'm ready to see grass... and robins...

We got 14" out of the last storm, and another 8" or so of "flurries/light snow" today...

Yeah, I'm starting to get tired of it, too. Pushed the chute angle control a bit too far today, went past the notches in the driver ring and got it stuck. Had to pull out six 7/16" nuts & bolts to release the chute and re-align it... Man, did my fingers get numb!

And now we need to brace for more snow, changing to sleet/rain, then back to snow, tonight.... Burlington VT has officially declared this to be the snowiest February on record.

It shows!

Ah, what the heck are we to do, winters were always like this when I was a boy in the upstate N.Y. area.Friday into Saturday we received about 14", then Saturday into sunday another 6". This A.M. It's raining like crazy, go figure. Remember what Al Gore said. It has to get colder before it gets warmer, he should know as he won a cool million and the Noble Goof-Ball Prize.

Finding the room to put the snow is getting to be an issue so.. yeah a little break from the snow would be nice. Dealing with snow is a once or twice a week chore lately. We have already received 25 cm (10") more than the normal annual snowfall. The roads and streets are lined with big snowbanks. See the attached pictures (img_2418... is a picture of my car blanketed by the last snowfall).

I just looked up the stats and as of Feb. 16, we received 283 cm (111 inches of snow or 9'-3"). The 17" we received on the weekend and the 5" received yesterday evening is in addition, so that's another 22". There is another 5" forecasted in the next couple of days. Anyway, if any of you hear that anyone is looking for snow, I think I could do a good deal on truck loads.

Thank god for tractors and snowblower! :)

I smell spring in the air. The days are getting longer and the sun is getting higher in the sky. The worst should be over........Now we have to look forward to the mud and slop until that dries up. Vicious cycle but it's fun..

We don't have much snow after our little February thaw, but we still have at least one more -20F night to get through before things start warming up a bit.
Check list:
Wood pellets, 2400 lbs. check
Firewood, Tamarack, cut & split, 4 cord. check

Bring it on!

well, you easterners went and sent your snow our way...here in idaho. not too happy about that. I havnt purchased a snowblower or a blade for the new tractor yet, and dam* if i wasnt going to use the heated cab to push the snow, so it was front end loader use only. have put 8 hours on the new tractor.

Febuary has been a unusual event here in the southern plains in NE Oklahoma. Our average winter snowfall is 9" in this part of the state.

Jan 29th we set a 81 degree high record for the date. Feb 1st we had 15"-20"" of snow with temps down to 5 below zero. Just got the roads cleared and Feb 8 we had another 23"-25" snowfall with record breaking 31 below zero temps.

My tractor barn is a little over 200 ft from the house. One drift between the tractor barn and trailer shed was chest deep.
The national weather channel had some comments about the large amount of snow above average and the 111 degree temp swing in that short period of time in Nowata, OK.

I've had more than my one big snow for the winter as there has been some winters we had lots of ice storms and no snow. Thankfully we've missed the ice storms this winter ............. so far. I'm ready for green up time.

Me, too. It's back to just below zero here (again!), stiff wind blowing all night. Not supposed to get above 16 today, with a good breeze; northern NH has a severe wind chill warning in effect.

OTOH, this Friday we're supposed to get snow, changing to rain on Saturday, back to snow again Sunday.... arrgh! I'm ready for spring!!
