W/ the costs of heating.. I'd be looking at that 75 acres of woods and a nice woodstove.

We ordered 500 gallons of propane for last winter and had enough left over to cook on the stove with all summer, still have some left.

We have propane forced air heat in about a 2000 sq foot ranch.

We also have an outdoor woodburning furnace, I used that a lot last winter until I ran out of wood, so that helps keep our propane use down. We also had a home energy audit done with one of those blower doors to identify air leaks, hopefully I have a lot of those sealed up for this winter.

I agree with Mrwurm. We use about the same amount of propane, 1500-1600 gallons, and usually keep the heat VERY low, about 68 at the most. We have a four year old house that is very well insulated. Our hot water heaters use little propane as they are the instant ones. Our dryer is electric.

I live in western NY, 3600sq ft house and use propane for heat, hot water, dryer and cook top. We go through about 1400 gallons per year. The house is 2 years old, 2x6 constructed and has a high eff. furnace that we keep around 70-72 degrees. We also have a programmable thermostat and both of us work so we keep the house cooler when we're not there.
