Good call! This one was being called a pine tree planter to plant pine tree seedlings, but it could certainly be used for other species of trees as well. Pine tree production is a HUGE cash crop in the southeast, probably the biggest agriculture moneymaker.

As a kid my close friends family farmed. The planted peppers each spring and we would hoe and pick to have some fun money. One spring we're getting ready to plant. Planter had 6 seats seat across with boxes in front of you for the seedlings. Farmers wife spent about 10 minutes telling us how the plants had to go in the fingers so they got planted the correct depth and such. She must have brought up the fact about not putting the plants in upside down cause they would be ruined. So we're out in the field planting and farmer stops the tractor and starts yelling at everyone. Sure enough you look back and the are a bunch of roots dangling in the air. He gets off the tractor and starts counting seats. Shuts up and gets back on the tractor. Turns out it was the wife who had loaded here seedlings backward.
