Slitter wheel opens the soil, drop chute for the item to be planted, and wheels under the seat to close the slitted soil around the transplant. Box on top to hold the items to be planted.

The last tree planter I rode was a double seater with the seats facing forward. the opener/press wheel was between the seats. They can be used to plant more than just trees though.

Looks like a homemade transplanter. I have rode one built in a simular style to set tobacco. I cant tell from the picture, but I hope that Ford has vertical exhaust for the rider's sake.

I'll retract my earlier transplanter answer. Just looked closer and it doesn't appear to have rotating 'fingers' for seedling to sit in. Looks like the person seated would drop 'seeds' stored in the box into chute that would direct it into the furrow the disc opener made. Any variety of seed could be used from corn to potato pieces to bulbs. You could use a true finger type transplanter to plant seeds but not use a device such as this as a transplanter ( for most seedlings anyway). Terry Edit: seems like other members are also saying tobacco. Not familiar with that at all here in the Pacific North West

ya see, now that is prefect for me. last time i hoped up on the old tractor. she just began doing willies all over the place, had a hard time tamming it. a few times i lost my briches, some other times i filled me britches up with some gooy stuff. now i got me a box i can place my good cloths in, for when i need a spare change of cloths, and a way to dispose of the dirty ozzoy cloths without anyone the wizer. as a benefit i get some wheelie bars with wheels on the end. just for safe measure, if it gets a kicking!
