Have a hill next to driveway. Want to plant something that will take no maintence and keep away weeds. When to the local big box (Lowes) and they said they don't sell crown vetch anymore. That's what I was going to use. They had some suggestions, but I thought I'd check here first. Of course, those experts at Lowes has all the answers.

Creeping Juniper, Liriope(Monkey Grass), or Mondo Grass(Ophiopogon japonicus) would work depending on your climate and what type of ground cover you are looking for. Juniper would be easier to remove if you should ever decide to do so. Just a thought.

I was looking for crown vetch last year to plant on my pond dam. I talked to a few people, including someone from INDOT. He said they used to plant crown vetch on roadsides for erosion control, but have switched to Kentucky 31 fescue now. He claimed it will grow to 2-3 feet over the summer and then seed out in the fall. He said you can mow it or not, depending on your preference. I planted last fall and overseeded with winter wheat.

I can't really comment on how well it's doing, as the wheat is still going strong.

Once you get Pachysandra started it will take over. My dad used to have huge area covered with the stuff. It always looked nice and was low maintenance.

I tried to get Crown Vetch established on our dam but was unsuccessful with the stuff. I just mow, mow, mow it now.
