Can some you experts advise me on the type grease best for the fel and bh, as far as cost vs peformance vs longitvity. I also noticed in the manual and on the grease tubes it said not to mix types, what types are they referring too and how does one change from one type to another without mixing?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks in advance for suggestion/opinion/fact or bullarky. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh and the manual says every ten hours to grease the joints is that too little, too much or just right?

And after reading the post called "Stuck in the mud" on the Kubota Owning/Operating forum, I am so glad I got the CK20 TLB. If my fel can't get me out of muck then my BH will toss me out of muck with a summer-saut and a half twist. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There is lithium and some that have "secret" ingredients (I actually read that on one in Walmart). My dealer also reccommended the multi-purpose. FEL and Backhoe work can really do a number on the grease, and I give it one squirt each day to keep fresh grease at the pivots/joints. I would call the dealer from whom you purchased the tractor and ask what they used to make sure you don't mix some incompatible greases together. I think you have to clean out the old grease with solvents, and then introduce the new grease if they are not compatible. Maybe someone else can give you more info on "longevity" etc. The only places to really worry about are any place where they have boots. You don't want to put so much grease in that it pushes out and breaks the boots as they won't protect any longer, but I didn't see any grease zerks on the ones that had boots on my CK. Because I have used the FEL just about everyday, I make sure to keep plenty of grease in it. John

Ahh covert grease I hope it's not stealthy then how'd I know if it's there or not? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the input.

I'm certainly no expert (so take it for what it's worth), but my manual says the grease should have the designation "EP" (Extreme Pressure). I found that listed on only a few of the grease types at my local auto parts place...and none of them were very much more than any other grease (some less).

I've never had a problem with mixing grease. When the tempreture does get down to freezing (thats rare down here), My favorite grease "Mystic" is pretty darn thick and will not flow. Grease is cheep. Grease is real cheap. Grease is so dog-gone cheep that you can buy a lot of grease for the price of a few parts.
I like to grease the F.E.L. and anything that is P.T.O. driven about every 4 hours. Just a squirt will do. This little bit of mantance also allows me to keep an eye on everything. Four hours may seam extreame to some folks, Grease is cheap, parts and labor is high.

I'd rather take the time, and spend that little bit of money more often than less often. I figure that's about what I've used the FEL when I give it one squirt each day. I'm sure it can't hurt as I find grease everywhere later on after using the FEL, so it's getting squeezed out of the joints pretty quickly. Can't hurt going ahead and putting it in where there's no boot to push out. John

What they're referring to is mixing "lithium grease" with "poly-urea grease". Just stick with the lithium EP. The grease issue isn't such a big deal with greasing "pivot" joints such as loader arms etc.

When it comes to bearings, such as mower spindles, that's another issue. Bearings are designed for particular loads, life and lubrication. I wouldn't skimp on the bearing grease, nor mix types.
