I have had a gravely given to me and it hasn't ran in about 8 years, no spark. I replaced the magneto, still no go. It has compression. When the mag click's there's a bright spark on the plug, but when the rpm's increase the spark isn't as bright. Any idea's to the problem. I did rotate the timing 180 to be sure that wasn't the problem.

Hi! Inside magneto they are breaker points . They must be clean and bright .Remove grey carbon with a smooth file and adjust open to .015.
Now check timing on magneto face plate. They are a line and dot. Loosen magneto coupling nut until it move on the camshaft. Crank starter pulley until you feel compression stroke. Remove sparkplug with a wire measure piston surface until it at exact Top Dead Center. Hold magneto shaft extension with Vise-Grip so it will not move. Rotate the magneto impulse( inoperative) until timing marks . Line on coupling and Dot on Magneto line up. Tight the nut be sure timing mark are together. Good luck! Oldmech
