Tis the season in my neck of the woods to toss down that grass seed. Fixing/repair spots on the yard here I went thru 15lbs of seed last Saturday (11/24/01) and four days later I'm seeing it! I hit it perfect since it showered just before I started sewing, then rained a little, a sunny day, more rain, sunshine etc. The trend will continue this week according to the weather folks. I also put down about 20lbs of "WINTER" fertilizer in spots that need some TLC.

Parts of they yard has received some nice horse manure in the past six weeks and it's really starting to look hearty in those areas which had been kinda been filled with margial earth so I'm slowly getting back to yard conditions (dug up septic lines was the culprit).

One part of the yard (outta site mainly) is rough. An old building used to be there and the concrete floor/gravel driveway have gotten leveled into the ground there and very little fill/topsoil to cover the area. I cut up some trees there and the saw dust helps. I mowed some of the fall leaves into the area and that helps some too. This weekend if possible I'm reclaiming some wet leaves from a creek bed and gonna apply to an area that's pretty darn lumpy to see if it helps the grass take hold.

Since the post we had lots of rain, several days of sunshine and heavy dews and I have new grass everywhere! There's a few areas where I wished more would have sprung up but some of that soil ain't the best stuff in the world but I got a great start.

And it rained some more and lots and lots of pretty green rye grass all over the place! Kinda odd in December.

I got some of the prettiest green grass and some is 8" tall. On patch that was 8" a while back I have cut once and may have to cut again, but it had some horse loving scattered on the area too.
I may even go over 2-3 sections of the yard thru Christmas. I'm chatting to Santa about an aerator for the yard, one of those you pull behind a garden tractor and available at Lowes, etc.
