GRASS BURNER
I noticed a brown spot in the lawn about 2 feet square.
Couldn't figured out what caused it till it dawned on me it was where I parked the CC GT2554 and left it running for a few minutes.
Later I found 2 more brown spots where I had parked the tractor.
What's causing the CC 2554 to scorch the grass like this?

What's the fix?

Hmm, is the engine putting off an unusual amount of heat maybe? It also could be something leaking that is killing the grass. Just a couple of ideas.

Oh, and another idea. You weren't filling it up with gas and spilled a little in those areas were you?

There have been quite a few posts in the past about this.... it seems it was the exhaust/muffler heat as far as I can remember.

That is my first thought but I looked at a picture of one and it looked like the exhaust came out the front pretty high and was pointed forward. I guess it could do that though.

That sounds a bit odd. When you get a fluid leak (and either motor oil or hydraulic fluid will kill grass dead) it is usually in a dot or line pattern. Maybe a pool, but the good news is that if you have a hefty leak on grass that the dirt absorbs it and keeps it from spreading much.

If you are getting a spot two feet square, it is probably from heat, although my first thought when starting to read your post was "fertilizer burn". Doesn't sound like it, though, after finishing the read. And it takes quite a bit of heat to kill vegitation - enough to make the capilaries inside the foliage burst.

Odd... :p

My Ferris mower does the same thing, it will burn the lawn if you let it sit for over a minute or two. I park it on the driveway now if I want to pick up any branches that are laying around. The Ferris burns come from the hot exhaust.

yes, it is the exhaust; I beleive CC has modified new units to eliminate this problem.

Like others have said, the 2005 model year 2500's have the exhaust exiting downwards. That would be your cuprit.

The exhaust was changed for 2006, and now exits from the front of the hood.
